Even though it is shown as a sign of some superstitions perceived as tics in society, it is actually a sign of valuable health problems. Although it may seem like a situation that will not be taken into account, it can come to the point of preventing vision in its later stages. Eye Center Leader Assoc. Dr. Barış Sönmez explained the causes of eye twitching in turn.

Eye twitching occurs due to sudden and short-term spasms in the eyelids. This short-term spasm usually does not affect vision. It often takes a few minutes and passes. It is invisible from the outside and does not affect the appearance. Rarely, it may take a few hours or a few days.

In order to quickly get rid of mild eye twitching, the following should be considered:

– Give importance to quality sleep for a sufficient time.
-Do cardio.
-Do relaxation and stretching exercises.
-Reduce coffee and tea consumption.

If you consume caffeine too much…

The dose of coffee drunk for pleasure should not exceed 3-4 cups a day. During tired and tense times, tea and coffee is drunk more frequently and heavily. This can increase the frequency and duration of eye twitches. Unconsciously, heavy caffeine intake can occur from foods and beverages other than coffee, and sometimes from some medications. It should not be forgotten that many pain relievers and antipyretics used in the treatment of common cold in winter also contain caffeine in combination.

Young people under tension beware!

Eye twitching is often seen in active, ambitious and nervous young adults. Mental and physical exhaustion is among the most valuable causes of eye twitching. The sadness you’ve experienced in the past few weeks, the emotional anguish you’ve been wearing your head and your sleep, can also cause twitching in your eyes.
