Symptoms
Hands especially thumb, index and middle fingers
• pain, • numbness, tingling, burning • loss of strength • night numbness in the hands,
Findings and Diagnosis
Tinnel’s sign: Tingling and electrification in the hand as a result of hitting the inside of the wrist with the fingertip
Phalen Maneuver: Bending the wrist 90 degrees inward Numbness in the hand and fingers
Durkan Test: The emergence of complaints with pressure along the course of the nerve in the palm
Electrophysiological Tests: Although the form of the complaints and examination are sufficient for the diagnosis of the disease, for the confirmation of the diagnosis and the treatment plan is necessary.
It is a progressive disease that occurs as a result of damage to the median nerve, which is the largest nerve of the hand, often in both hands and especially in the thumb, index and middle fingers of the mostly used hand.
Who Is It Seen?
Carpal tunnel syndrome often develops as a result of repetitive and compulsive movements of the wrist. The increasing use of computers, the use of inappropriate equipment, and the use of inappropriate ways have significantly increased the incidence of the disease. It is more common in those who work in jobs with a high physical load using the wrist, and those who do cycling and weight sports.
The disease is more common in diabetes, goiter, rheumatic disease, kidney and heart failure patients, pregnancy and birth control pill use, and long-term steroid (cortisone) use.

Heart Failure
Repetitive and Difficult

Chronic Kidney Failure
How Can It Be Prevented?
Like all diseases, some preventive measures can protect us from this disease. Protecting our wrist from repetitive traumas, avoiding compelling movements, using appropriate equipment (mause pad, supported keyboard) during computer use and limiting working times to reasonable times are among the things that can be done to prevent us from getting sick.
Nutrition is important as in all diseases. Consumption of foods rich in omega 3 and B vitamins together with antioxidants will be beneficial for our nervous system as well as for this disease.
How Is It Treated?
Although drug and rest treatments can be applied in patients without sensory and motor loss, surgery that will be applied without delay in patients with sensory and motor loss will prevent permanent nerve damage and its progression.
Treatment Methods
Rest Wristbands
Steroid (cortisone) therapy
Painkillers
Surgical Treatment
