What is IVF and to whom is it applied?

Embryos are inserted into the uterus with a thin catheter through the cervix. As a result of these procedures, pregnancy occurs in approximately 50% of women. However, some of these pregnancies end in miscarriage. Approximately 40% of couples undergoing treatment have children per treatment. This rate can reach 70 – 80% as a result of many applications. The remaining 20-30% group cannot have children today, despite all the possibilities of modern medicine.
In IVF methods, the ovaries of the woman are stimulated with various drugs (Gonal-F, Puregon, Menogon). The purpose of stimulating the ovaries is to obtain a large number of eggs that are candidates for embryo formation. Placing a large number of embryos in the uterus (embryo transfer) has been shown to increase the chances of pregnancy (pregnancy rates are around 10% when one embryo is implanted, 40-50% when three embryos are implanted).
General information about IVF
In vitro fertilization is a form of treatment applied to women who cannot become pregnant with classical methods. It is based on the principle of transferring embryos to the uterus, which are formed as a result of combining male (sperm) and female (egg) progeny cells under laboratory conditions. Fertilization performed under laboratory conditions is achieved spontaneously (in vitro fertilization) or by human hand, by injecting a single sperm into a single egg (microinjection).
In vitro fertilization started to be applied to women who had permanent damage to their tubes as a result of infection or surgical procedure, and after a short time, it became used in the treatment of other causes that lead to infertility. Today, successful results are obtained with in vitro fertilization methods in endometriosis, unexplained infertility cases and male infertility.
Microinjection, which has been applied especially in recent years, is described as a revolution in the treatment of men who have sperm in their testicles, even though the sperm count is very low and even there is no sperm in their semen.
