WHAT IS EMDR TECHNIQUE? WHAT IS IT USED FOR?

“Usually when something traumatic happens, it gets trapped in the nervous system along with the original picture, sounds, thoughts, feelings. Since the experience is there, it will keep re-triggering whenever a reminder occurs. This may be at the root of many of the discomforts, fears and negative emotions we seem unable to control, such as helplessness. These are actually triggers of emotions associated with past experience. It is seen that the eye movements we use in EMDR open the nervous system and allow the brain to process the experience. This could be what happens in REM sleep, dreaming, or sleep. Eye movements can contribute to the processing of unconscious material. The important thing to keep in mind is that it is your brain that will bring about the healing and you are in control. “With the eye movements in EMDR, the past experiences that still have a negative trace in the person are processed in the mind and the mind is provided by the mind to register it with other normal memories. Thus, the person who gets rid of the negative traces of these experiences can continue his life more harmoniously and well.
