Contact lenses, which are a savior instead of using glasses, are often preferred by many people today. Eye Health and Diseases Expert Dr. Faculty Member Fatih Atmaca informed what needs to be known. How should contact lenses be used? Here’s what you need to know…
REMOVE THE LENSES WHEN YOU RETURN TO YOUR HOUSE!
Today, the number of contact lens wearers is increasing. Contact lenses used both because of the name of having colored eyes and because of an eye disorder cause important issues when some easy rules are not taken into account.
Contact lenses; It is frequently preferred by patients with eye disorders, who do not want to wear glasses, and whose eyes are not suitable for laser. contact lenses; They are assistive vision devices that we often prescribe on the basis of compliance with the rules and in place.
DO NOT USE LENSES LONG PERIODICALLY!
No matter how high their oxygen permeability is; An eye with a contact lens is less oxygenated than an ordinary eye. For this reason, we should use our lenses as short as possible. For example, when we return home from school or work, we should remove our lenses and use glasses.
DO NOT Ignore the HYGIENE OF LENSES!
Indicating that we should be very careful about the hygiene of our lenses, Dr. Fatih Atmaca said, “We should wash our hands before putting on and taking off our lenses. After removing our lenses, we should renew our solution in our clear lens box.”
DO NOT SLEEP WITH LENSES!
We should never, ever sleep with our lenses. When we say this to our patients, we sometimes get the answer, ‘But, sir, we have friends who do this and nothing happens’. My response in this situation is as follows: “One day nothing will happen, a thousand days nothing will happen. On the thousand-first day, you can get inflammation.” The unfortunate thing is that infections, which we call keratitis (inflammation of the transparent front layer of our eye on which we put the lens on), due to the use of contact lenses become so important that they cause permanent vision loss. Just as we feel the need to take off our shoes and socks before going to sleep, we should not sleep without removing our lenses. Let’s not forget that our pupils are much more sensitive than the soles of our feet.
NO MONTHLY LENS!
No monthly lens; There are lenses that you can use for a month, provided that you wear them in the morning and remove them in the evening. Never go into the pool with your lenses. Chlorine in the pool, protective matters, dyes and body fluids of other pool users adhere to your contact lenses and even if you leave the pool, your eyes will continue to be exposed to these harmful and dirty issues as long as the lenses remain in your eyes. Let’s not forget that one of every two patients we encounter with an important eye infection, which we call keratitis, is a systemless contact lens wearer. For this reason, we must be careful when using lenses, and we must keep in mind many wasteful aphorisms.
