Why is back pain important?

by clinic

Low back pain is a syndrome that can be seen in 60-85% of today’s society at any time in life and has a wide variety of causes. In addition to the high treatment costs, especially in mechanical low back pain, the negative effects of chronic pain on the patient are very important.

Contrary to popular belief, low back pain is not the inevitable result of aging. Like all organs, the wear and tear of the spine is a physiological phenomenon. The hardening of the spine by losing flexibility over time is a balancing factor that provides additional endurance against gradually weakening muscles.

Low back pain can be seen at all ages. Even at the age of 15, we have a patient who developed lower back and leg pain due to herniated disc and underwent surgery. In terms of chronic disease treatment, it is in the second place after heart diseases. The importance of low back pain emerges especially in the industrial sector and working society. Due to pain, the workday and the loss of work force take a heavy load.

70-80% of patients with low back pain can recover after the first acute attack without the need for any treatment. In 20-30%, there may be 2nd – 3rd repetitions. The important thing here is to prevent these repetitions from happening. Because with repetitions, the pain becomes chronic and the patient becomes unable to work at all due to low back pain. To prevent this can be done with back training. It is necessary for the person to know his or her waist, to know how hard it will be with which movement, to learn the risk factors that cause low back pain, and how exercises can be protected from pain.

In addition to the wear and tear of the spine due to years, improper posture of the spine (poor posture) and bodily movements that force the waist are responsible for the formation of low back pain. For this, it is necessary to define what unnatural bodily behaviors are in daily life and professional work, to learn the truth and to prevent excessive strain on the spine. Low back protection principles are necessary throughout life, not only in the acutely painful period. Moreover, these are natural behaviors that are not difficult at all.
