Federation of Family Physicians Associations (AHEF) Chairman of the Board Dr. Özlem Sezen draws attention to the demands of Family Physicians before the 14 March Medicine Day. Dr. “Listen to our voice for an efficient and highly motivated working environment,” says Sezen and adds, “We are struggling to do our job in the best way possible and to provide endless service to our people. All we want is to work in a fairer environment, where our rights are more respected. As Family Physicians, we look forward to the realization of these items.”
1- Ensuring that the law on violence that can be effectively applied in health is enacted as soon as possible, that 184 does not continue as a complaint line and is removed,
2- Giving pension rights to all health workers who have spent their years in health and deserved to retire, ensuring that they receive a pension above the poverty line,
3- Taking necessary legal measures on issues that will drag the country’s health into the abyss, such as vaccine refusal, making the vaccines included in the childhood vaccination calendar of the Ministry of Health obligatory by law,
4- Ensuring the compliance of the legislation with the law, following the standardization, preventing the arbitrary practices in each province, ensuring that the Health Directorates pay attention to this issue,
5- Integrating health literacy, which will raise Turkey’s health standards, into education and training as a lesson and a behavior starting from primary school, and its dissemination to the society through methods such as public education and public service announcements,
6- Establishment of new family medicine units befitting the health of the country; location, building and interior design by the Ministry of Health,
7- The decision-making authority of all health-related requests of all public institutions is solely the Ministry of Health, in health report requests, our Ministry informs the relevant institutions that no reports without an opinion can be requested by the relevant institutions, and standardization is ensured immediately,
8- The main purpose for which the family physician is the coordinator in individual health is to protect general health before the disease occurs and to initiate the referral chain by the family physician when necessary.
9- In order for the service to reach the most remote corners of our country, the problems related to the absence of family health workers in the family medicine unit should be resolved as soon as possible, and the lack of health workers should be resolved immediately,
10- Since the main duty of family medicine is preventive medicine, and in order to increase the time allocated to preventive medicine in order to raise healthy generations, removing unnecessary workload, producing new policies by the Ministry of Health, realizing social projects,
11 – Having a say in the health policies of our Federation and taking the opinions and suggestions of our Federation before all changes to be made in the field of health in our country,
12 – Going to the source of the problem in the changes to be made by the Ministry, taking the opinions and demands of the field by making correct determinations, preventing the changes made in the name of correction without following these steps from causing bigger problems,
13- Giving responsibility to the public in the parameters used in the evaluation of family medicine such as vaccination and follow-up, which have an indisputable protective value for public health, remembering that the first priority is the person himself in the works and procedures that are not done, and protecting the society against diseases by making the necessary sanctions understandable and applicable to the public,
14- Making the old TSMs (District Health Institutions), which have many duties in terms of public health, either functional or completely abolished,
15- Taking steps to ensure that health workers who fulfill their duties in the field of national health properly, who fulfill their duties in war, peace, migration, in the mountains, under all conditions, stop being worn out and reach the value they deserve, and support them in terms of personal rights.
