  • In the Gaps diet; Daily intake of amino acids, nutritious oils, vitamins and minerals is valuable. Quality protein sources such as meat and fish should be present in the diet.

  • Since bowel syndrome is experienced, lactose-free milk should be consumed. Fermented milk products such as yogurt, sour cream and natural cheeses do not contain lactose and are suitable for consumption.

  • Patients on the GAPS diet should not consume milk and unfermented milk products as they are very suitable for allergies.

  • Egg; It provides many nutrients that GAPS patients lack, such as vitamins, minerals, essential amino acids and fatty acids. It is a good source of magnesium and zinc, and is also rich in vitamin B12 necessary for the border system.

  • Consumption of non-starchy vegetables such as artichoke, broccoli, zucchini, eggplant, spinach, cauliflower, cabbage is appropriate in the diet.

  • Since the patients complain of diarrhea, until they recover; Vegetables should be consumed without peel, seed and properly boiled.

  • If the patient has diarrhea, fruit consumption is not appropriate. As the diarrhea begins to pass, the fruits can be consumed as boiled, and when it is completely finished, it can be consumed as usual.

  • Oil seeds such as hazelnuts, walnuts, almonds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, cashews can be consumed in unroasted-unsalted form in appropriate portions.

  • All legumes, with the exception of dried beans, lima beans, lentils, and peas, are very starchy for GAPS patients and should be avoided.

  • It is valuable to soak dry beans, lentils and peas in water for 12 hours and to purify them from the water before cooking. These foods should be consumed after the diarrhea is completely gone.

  • Honey that is natural and has been processed as little as possible can be consumed.

  • Freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices can be consumed.

  • Tap water should not be preferred due to its chlorine content, the water should be properly filtered.

  • Lamb, veal/beef, poultry fats have the effect of strengthening the immune system and protecting the border system. Oils and butter can be used in the cooking step. It is beneficial to consume cold extra virgin olive oil in its raw form.

  • In the Gaps diet, it is beneficial to exclude gluten-containing grains and grain artifacts from the diet.

  • Starchy vegetables such as potatoes, yams, parsnip, and starchy legumes such as soybeans, mung beans, chickpeas, bean sprouts and broad beans are excluded from the diet.
