There are three very simple methods used to measure obesity in practice:
1. BMI -Body Mass Index
2. Waist circumference measurement:
3.Body Amount of Fat
BMI-Body Mass Index: With the BMI-Body Mass Index, it is evaluated whether your weight is in the ideal weight according to your height. Body mass index is the ratio of weight to height squared. Ideal weight is found by an evaluation called body mass index. Everyone has an ideal weight range. Weight in this range is considered normal. As the body mass index increases, the risk of diseases brought about by weight also increases.
Calculation:
Body Mass index: Bodyweight/(Height)2
What’s Your Body Mass Index?
WHO-World Health Organization (World Health Organization) obesity disease test grouping is as follows:
Body Mass Index 20-24.9 kg/m2 normal,
Body Mass Index 25-29.9 kg /m2 overweight
Body Mass Index 30 kg/m2 and above obesity,
Body Mass Index 30.0-34.9 I degree obesity
Body Mass Index 35.0-39.9 II. degree obesity
Body Mass Index of 40 kg/m2 and above, morbid obesity (III. degree obesity)
Body Mass Index between 20-24.9 kg/m2 is normal. We call this the ideal weight range. Ideal weight is not a single value. The person should try to keep his weight within these limits throughout his life. While it is closer to 20 in young people, it can get closer to 24.9 in time.
Waist Circumference Measurement:
Waist circumference measurement is important for overweight people. If it is more than 80 cm in women and 94 cm in men, the risk of disease increases in overweight people. If it is more than 88 cm in women and 102 cm in men, the risk of disease increases much more.
It is ideal for us to have a body mass index of 20-24 kg/m2 and a waist circumference of 80 cm for women and less than 94 cm for men.
Our goals in our measurements and the values we will protect when we reach them.
Body Fat Amount: Body fat amount can be determined with an instrument that works with electromagnetic waves emitted by our body.
For Women
For Men
20-29% Normal
10-19% Normal
30-34% Overweight
20-24% Overweight
35-40% Obese
25-30% Fat
40%- Extreme obesity (Morbid obese)
30%- Morbidly Obese
Ideal deviations from weight:
Overweight:
Body Mass Index between 25 – 29.9 kg/m2 overweight
Obesity:
Obesity disease WHO-World Health The Organization, that is, the World Health Organization, defines it as ‘too much fat accumulation that is not normal in the way and rate that causes diseases in the body’.
Body Mass index of 30 kg/m2 and above is considered as obesity. Obesity poses a risk for catching some diseases.
