Fibromyalgia is a chronic disease that is seen in 2-4% of the society, its incidence is 4 times higher in women than in men, and it seriously impairs the quality of life of the person.
Another name for fibromyalgia disease is soft tissue rheumatism.
Its difference from true rheumatism is that the findings related to rheumatism in the blood are normal.
Fibromyalgia is also known as the executive disease of sensitive, perfectionist, very meticulous people.
The disease is defined as a syndrome that is accompanied by many problems, such as widespread muscle pain, headache, fatigue, exhaustion, weakness, sleep disorders, depressive episodes, and sometimes spastic colitis, rather than a single complaint.
Cause of Fibromyalgia
Although the cause of fibromyalgia is not fully explained, it is thought that the disorder that causes symptoms originates from the central nervous system (central sensitization). Many factors, individually or in combination, can initiate fibromyalgia. Factors such as genetic factors, viral infection, physical trauma (surgery operation, fall or motor vehicle accident), emotional trauma, drug changes (corticosteroid discontinuation) are held responsible for the emergence of fibromyalgia. It is also known that these patients have low levels of serotonin, increase in substance P and glutamate levels, disorders in the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal axis, disorders in the autonomic nervous system, low levels of some amino acids, and low IGF-1 levels as a result of sleep disturbance.
From the point of view of complementary medicine, it is seen that there is a lymphatic circulation disorder at the root of the disease. Many of the trigger points in a patient with fibromyalgia that we find tender and painful are actually points where fragmented debris is drained to be sent to the lymphatic system.
It is not possible for fibromyalgia syndrome to occur without dysfunction in the autonomic nervous system. Moreover, when evaluated in terms of acid-base, it is noteworthy that there is an intense acid structure in their bodies.
