Lumbar Hernia is a disease caused by the slipping out of the disc-shaped structure composed of elastic tissue between two vertebrae.

Since it puts pressure on the nerves passing through the spinal canal, it causes complaints such as pain, limitation of movement, difficulty in walking and sitting, numbness. Especially in the acute period, muscle pain is added to the complaints, since there is spasm in the muscles around that area.

The pain may be locally in the lumbar region or it may be in the form of pain and numbness that goes down to the heel due to pressure on the nerves descending to the leg.

The most common level is Lumbal 4-5. It is between the vertebrae.

Causes of herniated disc include structural weakness, heavy lifting, sudden exertion, obesity, bending over in an unsuitable position, unconscious sports, long-term driving, wrong sitting and posture habits, and external trauma.

What can be done about protection;

•Doing regular exercises to strengthen the waist and back muscles
•Not lifting heavy
•To carry a load with an appropriate weight and evenly distributing it to both sides
•Bending the knees when it is necessary to bend
•Up not lying down correctly
• Not staying in a standing or sitting position for a long time

Treatment

In the first place, heat application, bed rest on a not very hard and not soft surface and drug treatment can be applied.
If the patient has progressive loss of strength, weakening and thinning of the leg muscles, and severe pain that does not go away with treatment, surgery should be recommended.
If there are symptoms such as inability to urinate or incontinence, drop foot, they should be operated immediately.

Acupuncture treatment

Acupuncture treatment can be applied to patients who do not want to use drugs, cannot use them due to side effects, or have not benefited from drug treatment.
The effects of acupuncture in this disease;

•Muscle relaxant effect
•Pain-killing effect
•Edema (swelling) relieving effect
•Improving blood supply and nutrition in the region
•Stimulating effect on the skin through the nerve endings. and rejuvenating the tissue functions.
A total of 10-15 sessions are required at regular intervals.
