AESTHETIC VARICOSE TREATMENT
With the technological possibilities developed in recent years, laser treatment in capillary varicose veins has been successfully applied in terms of cosmetics.
WHAT IS LASER?
Laser is a type of beam defined by abbreviation from the initials of the English LASER (Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation) words. Laser light is single-phase, monochromatic and phased light that travels parallel to each other without scattering. A wavelength and energy that will not damage the tissues outside the targeted area (selective photothermolysis) is used.
SELECTIVE PHOTOTHERMOLYSIS: When light of the appropriate wavelength to be absorbed by the target tissue is applied in less or equal time than the thermal relaxation time of the target tissue (the time required for the irradiated tissue to lose 50% of the heat without transmitting it to the environment), energy is created in the target tissue without affecting the surrounding tissue.
The aim of laser treatment is to match the wavelengths with the target absorption spectrum. The aim is to apply a wavelength that is specifically absorbed by the chromoform (endogenous chromophores in the skin: water, Hb, melanin and kerotene) and to ensure the destruction of the target by providing heat accumulation in the target.
Absorbing high-energy laser light, the chromophore generates a large amount of heat and causes tissue destruction in the chromophore. Ideally, the aim is for heat accumulation to be only at the target, with no or minimal damage to neighboring structures.
IS LASER TREATMENT DANGEROUS?
The laser, which is used in different areas, is used safely for medical treatment with appropriate doses of refrigerant spray and protective glasses used during the procedure. In lasers made for this type of treatment, the beam mainly affects only the target area at a certain wavelength and does not harm the neighboring tissues. According to the vascular structure of the people, even if they are at the same wavelength, treatment is planned with different adjustments.
IS THERE A SCRATCH AFTER LASER TREATMENT?
There are no permanent scars after laser treatment. Temporary changes such as redness may occur in people with different and sensitive skin structures and disappear within 2-3 weeks.
CAN LASER TREATMENT BE APPLICABLE TO EVERYONE?
Before laser treatment, test shots are made to see the sensitivity of people to light energy and to determine the response to treatment. Some people burn easily in the sun, while others blush because they are more sensitive. Determine the skin types of these people. The important thing here is to determine the skin types of the people and to plan the treatment starting from the lowest appropriate doses.
IS LASER TREATMENT SUCCESSFUL?
Yes, patient satisfaction is achieved with a successful treatment. People’s skin characteristics (such as sun sensitivity) are important. In the first stage of treatment, test shots are made. According to the results, 80-100% success is achieved, depending on the vascular structure of the people.
IS LASER TREATMENT PAINFUL?
There may be a slight pain in the form of a mosquito bite, if necessary, local pain relief creams, ice application and limited numbing can be applied.
HOW LONG DOES LASER TREATMENT TAKE?
Laser therapy is applied in multiple sessions for capillary varicose veins. Treatment sessions are applied with a minimum of 5-6 sessions with intervals of at least 2-3 weeks.
WHEN WILL I GET THE TREATMENT RESULT?
As a general approach, laser treatment is started at low doses depending on the skin type, so that changes that may occur in the skin are expected. Then the dose is increased according to the response to the treatment. For this reason, the changes and arrangements that may be made at the end of the first session will become more effective in the following sessions. For these reasons, it is important to be patient and be prepared for a series of sessions that can take a long time.
WHEN SHOULD THE TREATMENT BE APPLIED?
It is not recommended to go out in the sun after laser treatment. Clothing that will protect from the sun or sunscreen with a high protective factor should be used. In the summer months, treatment with protective creams is now easily done. In addition, protective creams help both in scar and treatment.
WHAT IS THE SUCCESS RATE IN LASER TREATMENT?
Treatment results may differ depending on the skin types and lesions they have. The overall success rate varies between 80-100%. Sessions are usually planned as three. Even in a single session, very successful results can be obtained. When necessary, in addition to laser treatment, microsclerotherapy is used to increase the success of the treatment. Additional treatment may be required at intermittent follow-ups after treatment.
