Expressing that the individual’s reaction to threatening environmental factors is defined as stress, experts state that stress is contagious and causes devastating effects in people when the coping mechanism is not learned. Emphasizing that stress also makes learning difficult, Expert Clinical Psychologist Dr. Yildiz Burkovic; He points out that effects such as an acceleration in the heartbeat, nausea, tremors and dizziness are observed during stress. Burkovik recommends doing physical exercises, listening to music, and getting support from the family to reduce stress.
Üsküdar University NPİSTANBUL Hospital Specialist Clinical Psychologist Dr. Yıldız Burkovic made evaluations about the factors that cause stress and its effects, and shared her recommendations.
stress is contagious
Stating that the individual’s response to threatening environmental features is defined as stress, Specialist Clinical Psychologist Dr. Yıldız Burkovic said, “Stress is contagious. If there is a condition that affects one employee, it spreads to other people. This is like dominoes. Unless you learn the coping mechanism, the successive blows or the things seen as blows destroy the people and the person sees himself as the most unlucky person and leaves himself. If coping with stress is not learned, communication with the home and social environment deteriorates, productivity decreases in the workplace, dismissals and resignations are observed. If the employer does not implement the right strategy, losses are inevitable.
Fear and stress negatively affect learning
Specialist Clinical Psychologist Dr. Yıldız Burkovik said that approximately 500 billion synapses are involved in the transmission and evaluation of the stimuli coming to our brain between cells and continued as follows:
“Only with their help is it possible to think, learn, recognize and remember in an orderly way. In case of stress, the functioning of synapses is disrupted. In case of stress, the rate of adrenaline and noradrenaline increases. In such a case, impulses reaching one cell cannot pass to another. This is the moment when we experience a great deal of tension when we are in a panic. No matter how well we have learned, the learning area is blocked, blockages occur in thought along with bodily reactions. In addition, the organism goes into an alarm state and therefore a series of negative hormonal reactions occurs and the possibility of thinking and recording is eliminated. If the learning took place without stress, in a peaceful and comfortable way, it will take place in more detail and more permanently. Because fear and stress will ensure that what is learned is not fully perceived and understood, and of course, there will be many disconnections in between. This result shows that a certain level of stress-induced anxiety is needed for learning, and it is difficult to learn without any anxiety.”
Effects occur during and after stress
Stating that some reactions occur in people during stress, Specialist Clinical Psychologist Dr. Yıldız Burkovik said, “Acceleration in the heartbeat, palpitations, chest pain, tension and pain in the muscles, increased blood pressure, dizziness, fatigue, fainting sensation, numbness, difficulty in swallowing, chills, dilated pupils, tremor, hot flashes, shortness of breath, nausea Reactions such as frequent urination or urgency, menstrual problems, dry mouth, abdominal pain and diarrhea can be given as examples. Stress also has long-term effects. These can be listed as the conversion from headache to migraine, heart disease, depression, memory disorders, diabetes, sleep disorders, immune diseases, psychosomatic diseases, conversion from panic attack to disorder, cancer, fears and phobias.
