Bedwetting in children (urinary incontinence)

by clinic

The problem of bedwetting in children and adolescents is quite common. Although the causes of these are certain underlying diseases or psychological factors, we see that they are mostly caused by genetic and familial reasons.

Daytime bedwetting almost completely ends when children reach the age of 3 years. The continuation of this is an important condition that should be investigated in terms of the underlying disease.

The problem of bedwetting (enuresis) in the evening, which is frequently seen in the pediatric age group, may be more familial due to genetic factors, so it does not need to be examined much.

However, further investigation and treatment should be performed in terms of many possible diseases such as daytime bedwetting (urinary incontinence), underlying constipation, urinary tract infection, bladder, urinary tract or kidney anomalies, and voiding dysfunctions.

When no other medically underlying disease is detected, the first choice is always raising family awareness, regulating fluid intake and success with the reward system, if patience is shown. Despite this, only medical treatment options can be considered in resistant cases.

Bedwetting treatment is an inconvenience that requires patience but is possible.
