Shoulder pain, which is mostly caused by heavy lifting and sudden movements that force the shoulder, is a discomfort that reduces the quality of life considerably. Shoulder pain can be caused by many health problems. Inflammatory rheumatism is one of the diseases that cause severe shoulder pain. So what is shoulder pain and how is it treated? The answer to these questions is in our news…

What is shoulder pain?

Shoulder pain often occurs due to soft tissue injuries that surround and move bones. Subacromial impingement, known as shoulder impingement syndrome, is the most common cause of shoulder pain. Shoulder compression, which is caused by movements such as reaching out and wiping the glass by raising the arm above the head level, occurs when the tendons in the shoulder area are again stuck in the middle of the bone structures in this area.

In addition to the pain originating from the shoulder joint, shoulder pain may also be seen due to the reflection of the complaints related to the discomfort in different regions to this region. Inflammation at the end of the shoulder, circulation disorders, heart and lung disorders, neck hernia, systemic diseases in the internal organs, thoracic outlet syndrome, presence of tumors, diabetes, tuberculosis and some health problems due to fibromyalgia also cause pain in the shoulder region.

What causes shoulder pain?

Complaints defined as shoulder pain can be caused by many factors. Although shoulder pain is among the most common joint pains, the location, type and severity of pain should be evaluated in detail together with other findings. According to the patient’s history, the doctor, after the physical examination, requests additional tests, reveals the condition causing the pain and arranges the appropriate treatment. Some of the most common causes of shoulder pain are listed in the following form:

Bursitis: The discomfort known as vesicle inflammation occurs with the inflammation of the fluid-filled vesicles located in the middle of the bone and soft tissue, which reduces friction.

Fibrosis: It manifests itself as pain and numbness caused by the inability of the muscles to relax as a result of using the shoulder joint with a terrible body condition.

Frozen Shoulder: Pain occurs with the hardening of the shoulder joint capsule, which occurs with the limitation of shoulder movement. It is usually caused by the person’s inability to move his shoulder for a long time due to shoulder pain, which is caused by different reasons.

Rheumatism: The majority of inflammatory rheumatism affects the shoulder. Severe pain occurs in the shoulder due to rheumatism.

Shoulder Dislocations: Pain may occur in the shoulder joint as a result of traumas that cause strain on the bone ends.

How is the treatment?

While the shoulder pains that develop due to muscle strain and wrong movement get better naturally in a short time, if there is no improvement in shoulder pain lasting more than 2 days, it is necessary to consult a doctor. In the treatment of shoulder pain, in some cases, easy pain relievers are sufficient, while some events require a multidisciplinary approach.

To prevent shoulder pain…

– Movements that force the shoulder and carrying heavy loads should be avoided.
– Especially on hot days, the cold air blown by the air conditioner in the vehicle should be prevented from coming directly on the body.
– Movements where the arms must be kept above the head level should be avoided for a long time to take or put things from a height.
– In the sitting position, the arms should be supported from the elbow area.
– Training should be done by placing the arms on the back and neck several times a day.
– If you also suffer from shoulder pain, do not forget to have your health checks systematically done.
