Dear readers, I would like to inform you about the chemical peeling process, one of the skin rejuvenation processes, after Botulinum toxin and dermal filler applications that I mentioned in my previous articles.
Chemical peeling is the process of controlled peeling of the skin by using special acids (TCA, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid) at a certain concentration. Chemical peeling, which is mainly used in medical conditions such as acne, acne scars, freckles, skin changes and spots that occur after sun exposure, some benign moles and fine superficial wrinkles, peels certain layers of the skin and ensures the production of healthier skin components. It can be applied alone or in addition to other treatments, as often as deemed appropriate by the specialist physician.
Before application, your face is cleaned; Necessary precautions are taken to protect the eye, nose and lip mucosa and chemical peeler is applied to your face. The chemical peel stays on your face for as long as deemed appropriate by the physician (usually 5-10 minutes). Depending on the type and concentration of the peeler used, a burning and stinging sensation may occur. At the end of the application, the skin is cleaned with a neutralizer suitable for the peeler used and the burning and stinging sensation disappears within minutes.
Chemical peelers are generally applied to the entire face. In the treatment of scars with a narrow mouth, deep base and pits that develop after acne, TCA can only be applied locally at a concentration that is too high to be applied to the entire face. I will talk about this method, called TCA CROSS, in more detail later.
Moisturizing care is required after application. Special care creams are available in pharmacies, which may contain restorative active ingredients and even some growth factors. Hot shower, sauna and similar applications should be avoided on the day of the application, and a suitable sunscreen should be used for at least three weeks. In superficial peelings, redness similar to sunburn, which lasts for 24-48 hours, and pinking can be seen on the face, while peeling, crusting, which can last for 3-4 days on average, can be observed on the face and wound care may be required in medium and deep peelings. Manual peeling of the formed crusts can lead to scar formation. After medium and deep peeling, undesirable conditions such as acne-like rash, infection, herpes, spots and/or scars can be seen rarely.
Although today it has lost its old charm with laser applications, chemical peeling is a treatment method that can give very effective results with the appropriate patient and appropriate method selection, and is a relatively economical treatment method because of its low technological dependence.
