You may have heard and/or read about the comfort zone. Some studies on why we have difficulty leaving our comfort zone have drawn attention to cognitive processes.
The decision-making process in the comfort zone, where there is minimal stress, seems to be faster and safer. But we do know that for optimum performance there must be some stress, anxiety and movement.
The lower and middle brain, whose formation is old, is more reflexive and has an important role in managing things that give pleasure to people such as food, status, and sexuality. The structures in this region are called the limbic system, and unlike the neocortex area, which is the last stage of brain evolution, instinctive decisions come from this region. Many decisions we make unconsciously during the day. But don’t worry, it does risk analysis in the background.
The fact that the limbic system analyzes quickly causes us to choose the less risky and more comfortable one by making an emotional choice. We act more dependent on our past experiences, judgments and environmental factors. New life experiences and emotions that contain positive residues can manipulate the classical functioning of the brain and make us step outside of our comfort zone. This shows the importance of increasing experience in any field.
If we are living stagnantly and waiting for something to change, if our comfort zone is an obstacle to our development, we need more experience. Otherwise, we can say that the activation in the prefrontal cortex is very low.
You are what you think because the brain is shaped by what we think and do. Our brain has a plasticity and is ready for change, reconnection, with enough emotional motivation, regardless of age. Neuroplasticity studies show us that movement, experiencing new things, learning languages, reading activities, exercise, music and many other cognitive activities contribute to change and recovery in the brain.
Sometimes we may not find enough motivation for new experiences and attempts to affirm our existence. In such cases, getting therapy from a specialist may be beneficial for the individual.
I wish you to have new experiences without thinking about what anyone will say. Before your comfort zone rots you..
