Ege University continues to support health workers in the earthquake zone

In Turkey, which was shaken by the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş, the wounds are being healed together. At Ege University, which convened extraordinarily on the first day of the earthquake, and took quick decisions about the support to be given to the region and the situation of the students, expert academicians and health professionals continue to be sent to the earthquake region, in addition to the in-kind aids. After the team sent to the Iskenderun State Hospital for the treatment of the injured, a new 22-person medical team and a 14-person pediatric support team set out to reach the region.

Stating that as Ege University, they are working to provide all kinds of support to the regions affected by the earthquake, Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Budak said, “We are living in days when we need unity and solidarity more than ever in our country, where one of the greatest disasters of the century has taken place. In addition to needs such as food and shelter, it is vital to have sufficient health personnel in the region. Last week, we sent 29 health workers to the disaster area under the coordination of the Ministry of Health. Today, we are sending our second team of 15 nurses, 4 pediatric surgeons, 2 plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeons, and 1 anesthesiologist, and our 14-person pediatric support team, consisting of 6 nurses and 8 physicians, to the region. Together with our teams that set out today, 65 health workers will serve our citizens in the earthquake region. I would like to thank all our healthcare workers who devotedly treated our earthquake victims. I sincerely believe that we will overcome these days together,” he said.

Stating that they provided expert academic support to the disaster area, Rector Prof. Dr. Budak said, “In addition to our healthcare workers, we have sent our team of experts working on reinforced concrete, steel, masonry structures, geotechnical and building materials in the Civil Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering to conduct an investigation in the region. I wish good luck to all our friends working in the field. ”
