First Liver Transplantation Performed in EU in the Normalization Process

At Ege University Medical Faculty Hospital, the treatment and surgeries, which were postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak, were resumed with the normalization process. Underlining that the necessary precautions and measures were taken at the Ege University Medical Faculty Hospital during the normalization process, Rector Budak said, “In our Aegean University Medical Faculty Hospital, no organ transplantation was performed during the Covid-19 process, except for our emergency patients. With the normalization process, we are now back to our routine. We started our operations in our Organ Transplantation Center, provided that the necessary hygienic measures and necessary precautions are taken, especially in accordance with the recommendations of the Ministry of Health and the Scientific Committee. Human life is extremely valuable. Our patient needed an organ transplant. Our teachers mobilized and a liver transplant was performed from one of our citizens who had brain death. Our patient is currently in good health. With this normalization process, our Ege University Medical Faculty Hospital will continue to perform successful surgeries in the field of organ transplantation. I wish our patient a speedy recovery and congratulate our teachers for their success.”

Today, many people are waiting for tissues and organs to survive. These people can be our relatives or ourselves. Therefore, we need to increase the number of donor candidates in our country.”
