Announcing that the domestic blood pump developed within Dokuz Eylul University has reached the stage of mass production, DEU Rector Prof. Dr. Nükhet Hotar said, “We have produced our vitally important domestic blood pump used in operating rooms in the field of cardiovascular surgery. Our faculty member, Prof. Dr. I congratulate Erdem Silistreli and his team and wish them continued success.”
Dokuz Eylul University Research and Practice Hospital, Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, Professor. Dr. Erdem Silistreli and his team produced a domestic portable blood pump within DEU. Laboratory, blood and flow tests of the blood pump, which has a smaller design than its counterparts, have been completed. The device, which has reached the stage of mass production, is aimed to provide ease of supply to the health sector with its low cost compared to imported products and the advantage of domestic production.
SUPPORT TO DOMESTIC PRODUCTION
Stating that Dokuz Eylül University carries out activities to support Turkey’s national policies regarding domestic and national production, Rector Prof. Dr. Nükhet Hotar said, “It is vital that medical devices are domestically produced, especially at the point of continuing the health service without interruption. During the Covid-19 process, countries either slowed down or completely stopped the export of their own production of strategically important products. Therefore, the countries importing these products faced various difficulties. For this reason, we care about and support our country’s national policies regarding domestic and national production. As a university, we mobilize all our resources to both our academic staff and companies that carry out R&D activities within DEPARK. In the field of cardiovascular surgery, we have developed our domestic blood pump, which is used in operating rooms and is of vital importance. We are also working on mass production. Our faculty member, Prof. Dr. I heartily congratulate Erdem Silistreli and his team.”
TESTS OK; IN MASS PRODUCTION
Stating that the patent of the domestic blood pump belongs to Dokuz Eylül University, Prof. Dr. Erdem Silistreli stated that the device, whose tests have been completed, has reached the stage of mass production. Silistrali said, “We have completed the laboratory, blood and flow tests of our device, whose full-size prototype was produced. Unlike its counterparts, our portable blood pump, which is smaller and easier to use, can be controlled wirelessly. The device, which can store data, can also transfer data wirelessly. The data are archived both to make retrospective evaluations about the patient and to transfer statistical information to scientific research. We aim to enable our wireless transmission device to transfer data to mobile devices used by physicians or perfusionists in the near future.”
