Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, which continues to heal the wounds of earthquake victims in Hatay Defne, one of the cities affected by the earthquake with its hundreds of personnel, vehicles and equipment, also helps international non-governmental organizations that come to the region in their activities. Volunteer doctors and other health workers of the international humanitarian aid organization Humanity First Association provide health services to citizens with the facilities they provide in the tent city of Defne district of Kocaeli Metropolitan.
250 patients are treated daily
3 doctors and 5 health workers of Pakistani origin from the German branch of the international humanitarian aid organization Humanity First came to the Defne district of Hatay. Kocaeli Metropolitan teams set up a tent next to a school in the region so that the organization can carry out its health studies. In this health center, which was later moved to a container in the tent city, 250 earthquake victims are provided with free health care every day. While the health center serves from 9 am to 9 pm, doctors can come to the center outside these hours to provide health services to citizens in case of emergency.
FREE MEDICATION IS GIVEN
The health center, where Humanity First doctors work, serves both those staying in the tent city where it is located and citizens coming from abroad. Medicines prescribed by doctors are given to citizens who have their examinations free of charge by Kocaeli Chamber of Pharmacists in another tent set up by the Metropolitan Municipality. While the German doctors working in the health center returned to their countries, they were replaced by doctors from the United States. The international organization plans to send doctors from many countries to this center on a rotating basis.
HEALTH SCREENING IN VILLAGES
A foreign doctor working in the center visits the villages in the region every day to perform health screenings. Among the citizens who are given free medicines, those who are in an emergency situation are provided with transportation to the university hospital in Hatay by metropolitan ambulances.
