We, as Ege University, took a series of decisions by convening our Senate on the support to be given to the region after the disaster. We have mobilized our scientific power in many areas from education to in-kind and cash aid, from blood donation to health support. We sent many materials, from clothing to food, to meet the basic needs of our earthquake victims, to the region under the coordination of our Governor’s Office. Under the coordination of the Ministry of Health, the first team we sent for the treatment of the injured returned to our university. A new health team of 22 people and our pediatric support team of 14 people, to whom we sent in the second phase, also provide health services in the region. In addition to our healthcare workers, our team of experts working on reinforced concrete, steel, masonry structures, geotechnical and building materials in the Civil Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering is also present in the region. They both conduct research and investigation and assess damage. I would like to express my gratitude to our staff in the field.”
“Earthquake victims receive service without an appointment in our units”
Rector Necdet Budak, who stated that Ege University mobilized all his strength for the earthquake victims, said, “Unfortunately, we also lost our students in the disaster of the century that deeply affected our country. Many of our students were injured. Relatives of our members passed away. Once again, I wish God’s mercy on those who lost their lives and healing for the injured. Our university, mobilizing all its strength for the region, treats the psychological wounds of the earthquake with its psychological support units. Even if earthquakes, which cause not only physical but also mental problems, last for seconds, their psychological effects on individuals can continue for a long time. In this context, Guidance and Psychological Counseling Unit and Child and Adult Disaster and Psychological Trauma Polyclinics continue their services for children and adults affected by the earthquake. In addition, in our Faculty of Dentistry, the treatments of our earthquake victims are carried out without the need for an appointment. Our fully accredited research university is one of the leading higher education institutions of our country, which has a strong scientific infrastructure, well-equipped laboratories and qualified human resources. We are mobilizing this savings for earthquake victims. We are a university with the largest and most equipped hospital in our region. We also use all the facilities and facilities of our university for the treatment of our citizens. The treatment of the injured, who were transferred by ambulance plane after the earthquakes, and the earthquake victims who applied to the hospital with their own means, continue in our hospital. Our earthquake victims who come to our city can benefit from our outpatient clinics that provide psychological services without the need for an appointment. We will heal the wounds of this great disaster together as one heart,” he said.
