EARLY SYMPTOMS OF HEART ARISES
Before we start with the heart attack symptoms and early warning signs, I suggest you watch the video I prepared earlier on chest pain. Not every chest pain is a heart attack. Most of this type of pain is due to strong muscle structures in the rib cage. Don’t be alarmed right away.
I’m going to tell you about five of the early signs of a heart attack that can be detected. We can see these as early warning signs.
It has been observed that the basic early symptoms started at least 1 month ago and generally “within a year”. These were seen in a study of 533 heart attack patients in Norway.
1. FATIGUE
It is the most important early sign and warning sign. 62% of patients say they are tired before a heart attack.
A 45-year-old man in his family realizes that he is more tired than before while carrying the goods in the furniture workshop where he works. He doesn’t care because he is fasting, but even though Ramadan and Eid pass, his tiredness does not decrease.
He feels that he is not sleeping well and is not getting enough rest. He even goes to bed early at night. He’s having a good sleep. He goes to work but nothing changes. He can’t put it on himself because he is young and healthy. He hides his fatigue from his colleagues and family. In the past, he had to take two or three breaks while working tirelessly until five o’clock. One day, when he goes to work early in the morning, he starts working when no one is there. Fatigue followed by nausea. He washes his face. Then his friends come. Five minutes after their arrival, a severe chest pain begins. While being taken to the hospital by the workplace’s car, he loses consciousness on the way. When he comes to the emergency room, it is understood that his heart has stopped. After CPR and then repeated electroshock, his heart is working. He is urgently taken to angiography. 100% occlusion is detected in the right coronary artery. It is opened with a stent urgently, but it is determined that there are significant stenosis in the value vessels. Surgery is decided. The luckiest thing is that he doesn’t get brain damage even though his heart has stopped. But he was so electro-shocked that he got burns on his chest. He has surgery a week later. He is returning home after bypassing his 3 veins.
2. SHOULDER AND BACK PAIN
Pain was detected in the left shoulder and back in 53% of the patients within one year.
A 56-year-old male, taxi driver at the airport, feels intermittent mild pain in his left shoulder. He thinks that he catches a cold through the window since it is winter. When it doesn’t pass, he goes to the Physiotherapist. He starts physical movements, but his complaints do not go away. He even takes a hot water bag with him and puts it on his shoulder from time to time. He thinks it will pass after the weather warms up. In the early morning of one summer, the pain in his left shoulder spreads to his chest as he packs the passenger’s suitcases in the trunk. His friends take him to the hospital with the airport ambulance. Angiography is performed and stenosis is detected in the left main vein. We urgently operated on it. Thankfully, he also recovered and regained his health.
3. CHEST PAIN
Chest pain was detected in 45% of patients who had a heart attack within one year.
While teaching a 48-year-old high school teacher, she notices pain in the left side of her chest. She thinks she ate too much especially because it was after dinner. She is comfortable as she does not have a known disease. That’s how she spends that semester. When the summer vacation comes, chest pain increases while waiting at the bus station to go home. She is understood to have had a heart attack when she was brought to the hospital by her relatives. She is urgently taken to angiography and a stent is placed in one of her veins. He’s getting over the situation.
4. ARM PAIN
It is seen as an early symptom in 38% of cases.
A 63-year-old retired patient realizes that he has pain in his arm after going up to his house on the 4th floor without an elevator. He thinks it’s what he’s carrying. When he comes home when he has no pain in normal times, he tells his relatives that he has pain. He says the pain continues at home, even if it is a little bit. It uses creams found at home. She refuses the offer of her relatives to go to the doctor because of this complaint that lasts for several months. One evening after a meal, severe arm pain radiates to the chest. 112 ambulances are called and his condition worsens until the ambulance arrives. When the paramedics arrived, it was understood that the heart and breathing had stopped. He dies when he does not respond to the CPR performed there.
5. BREATHABLE
It is seen as an early symptom in 33% of cases.
The 52-year-old electrician begins to have shortness of breath on the stairs he climbs while laying installations in constructions. He’s tired of smoking and weight. He continues to work in a large construction for 2 months.
When the construction works are finished, he goes to his hometown with his family. When he goes to the field in the village, he sees that his shortness of breath continues. Then he goes to the hospital in his hometown. As a result of the changes seen in the EKG, the stent is placed in the angiography.
As a difference that we can add to five symptoms, insomnia in women caught my attention. The incidence of this symptom was also found to be 47%. This type of symptom was not detected in men.
After these stories, we should add the following.
Especially in diabetics and women, it can be a heart attack for the first time without any symptoms. This is called a ‘silent heart attack’. So know these symptoms, but direct those around you, especially those who have diabetes and have been using insulin for a long time, to heart control. If they have cataracts, they will most likely have a blockage in their heart vessels, even if they do not have any complaints.
If there is heart disease, smoking, obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure in the family, have regular check-ups.
