Varicose Varicose Stockings

  • The main issues about socks; measurements and pressures.
  • Measurements should be made standing up.

As you can see, there are many different measuring points. The most important points (A, B, C and D) are ankle, below knee, calf and hip. For pantyhose, the higher points should be measured. Each manufacturer has its own measuring system. This table applies to high-level measurements at a location containing the maximum number of points. -Well, how is the distinction made according to the pressures?

I suggest you look at the table below.

– The European Union, which is used in the first column of the table above, is widely used.

Pressure in the first group, called protective or relaxing

PROTECTIVE 10-14 mm Hg –

Class I: 15-21 mmHg: Low Pressure –

II. Class: 23-32 mmHg: Medium Pressure –

III. Class: 34-46 mmHg: High Pressure –

Class IV: > 49 mmHg: Very High Pressure

SOCK TYPES

  1. Below Knee 2. Half Crotch 3. High Crotch 4. High Crotch, Hip Support 5. High Crotch, Pantyhose 6. Pantyhose

Stocking height is adjusted according to the location of the varicose veins. The ideal one is up to the groin. We call this the “high crotch”. But those who are not used to it (men) may have a hard time. Silicone-backed ones prevent the socks from falling off, they are more expensive. Below the knee socks are easier to use and wear. There is not much difference between them and the inguinal type, which supports the main muscle group that allows the blood to go up. There is little difference in functional effect.

An important point: When necessary, “customized” socks are made.

According to the degree of your varicose disease, your doctor will prescribe the appropriate socks for you after the examination.

WHICH? HOW?

  • In the first stage, compression stockings are recommended at varying pressures depending on the degree of varicose disease.
  • These stockings are classified according to the varicose condition of the person, according to different degrees of pressure and according to their lengths. There are 3-4 classes of socks starting from 15-20 mm of mercury (Hg) and gradually increasing.
  • Low-pressure and below-the-knee socks are recommended for protection, especially for people who may develop varicose veins professionally.
  • Compression stockings must be worn for a certain period of time after the treatment of varicose veins.

1. SUPPORT SOCKS: 16-18 mm Hg

It reduces the pain in the legs. You get less tired when you stand. It increases your standing time. It is useful for mild swelling in the feet.

It is useful to prevent the development of varicose veins during pregnancy.

2. LOW PRESSURE SOCKS: 18-21 mm Hg

In addition to the above, it is used in moderate varicose veins and capillary expansion. It is used to prevent Deep Vein Thrombosis (coagulation in the vein) on airplane trips. Similarly recommended for long journeys. It is used to increase the effectiveness after treatment for capillary varicose veins.

3. MEDIUM PRESSURE SOCKS: 23-32 mm Hg

It is used for moderate or severe lymphedema, for the treatment of superficial thrombophlebitis in active ulcers and for deep vein thrombosis. It reduces the rate of development of capillaries.

In orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure standing)

4.HIGH PRESSURE SOCKS: 34-46 mm Hg

In severe varicose and venous ulcers. In advanced stages of lymphedema. It is generally used in advanced problems after foam and needle treatment.

Compression stockings are recommended to be worn in the supine position before getting out of bed in the morning. Since the swelling in the legs has decreased, socks are easier to wear.

There is an important point to suggest about socks.

Before buying your socks, make sure to measure.

Only in this way can you find the right type of socks for your legs.

Measurements; It should be done in the ankle, in the middle section between the knee and the foot, as the width in the foot, in the length between the knee. According to these measurements, which socks question will be answered.
