Restless legs syndrome; It is an uncomfortable, strange feeling or pain that is felt mostly in the legs, sometimes in the arms, and is mostly relieved by movement. The patient with restless legs syndrome has difficulty in falling asleep, as well as in situations that require constant sitting, such as long journeys and meetings.
Patients cannot fully explain these strange sensations and pains felt at rest. They try to describe it with expressions of discomfort such as pain, burning, pity, pins and needles. The most defining feature is that the discomfort felt decreases with the movement of the legs. It is usually experienced with difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep. The patient gets out of bed, walks around, or constantly turns over in bed. The patient, who mostly relaxes for a while after the movement, experiences the same feeling again after a few minutes at the most.
Restless legs syndrome makes it difficult to sleep as it causes the need to move the legs while falling asleep and at night during sleep. In the recordings made in the sleep laboratory, it is seen that it prevents quality sleep by causing continuous bio-electrical awakening.
