Ingrown toenails are a very common foot health problem. Ingrown toenails, which make our daily life quite difficult, cause pain and discomfort to the person.
The most important causes of ingrown nails are:
1) Incorrect cutting of nails:
The cut shape of our toenails is very important in order to avoid ingrown nails. Toenails should never be cut round like fingernails, but should be cut straight with the corners out.
2) Use of inappropriate shoes:
The second important reason for ingrown nails is the use of pointed and narrow-toed shoes that do not fit our foot structure. Pointed-toed shoes that put pressure on the toes can cause ingrown nails.
3) Pregnancy:
Ingrown nails are common during and after pregnancy due to some hormonal reasons.
4) Medications:
Ingrown nails can also occur during the use of certain drugs such as systemic retinoic acid.
Treatment of ingrown toenails:
Many treatment methods are applied for ingrown nails.
First of all, since ingrown nails cause inflammation in the tissue around the nail, antibiotic treatment is usually given. However, this is not enough for the complete treatment of ingrown nails. The ingrown part of the nail must be saved.
We definitely do not recommend the frequent nail extraction treatment for ingrown nails. This is a very laborious and unsuccessful method.
In the treatment of ingrown nails, the most effective, practical and nail-free method we use today is the NAIL TUBE PROSTHESIS method. The plastic tube placed on the edge of the ingrown nail with local anesthesia stays for about 10 days and at the end of this period, ingrown nails are prevented.
Other ingrown toenail treatments include wire insertion and cotton application. The physician should eliminate the problem of ingrown nails by applying the most appropriate treatment according to the patient’s condition.
