Stating that studies on normal birth after cesarean section (SSVD), which is a new concept in Turkey, have increased, Gynecology and Obstetrics Specialist Lecturer. Member Assoc. Mehmet Serdar Kütük said, “As a result of the studies, the reliability of normal birth after cesarean section has been proven, however, the rates of recurrent cesarean sections have decreased all over the world and in our country.” So, can everyone have a normal delivery after cesarean section? What are the criteria for normal delivery after cesarean section?
“Although normal birth after cesarean section is not suitable for every expectant mother, it can be preferred in pregnant women who are not at high risk due to their medical conditions and previous pregnancy and birth histories,” said Associate Professor Mehmet Serdar Kütük. Its reliability has been proven by studies, as a result, the number of recurrent cesarean sections has decreased all over the world and in Turkey, and the number of normal births after cesarean section has increased rapidly.”
“The element of ‘a cesarean section always cesarean section’, which was adopted with the assumption that the uterine wall damaged in the cesarean section will rupture in subsequent births, has been refuted in the last twenty years and in clinics with the necessary technical equipment, the risk is reduced by 1 percent with appropriate patient selection. In particular, the information obtained from the Western literature, a previous cesarean section It shows that normal birth success after cesarean section changes in the middle of 60 to 80 percent. While the normal birth rate after cesarean section in Europe varies in the middle of 29 to 55 percent, this rate is around 12 to 14 percent in America and Australia. Acceptance rates of mothers are not different from the women of other countries listed above in cases where ordinary birth after cesarean section is offered and applied as a faithful option in our country.”
An active and reliable procedure in Turkey
Assoc. Mehmet Serdar Kütük said, “We have started the necessary studies on normal birth after cesarean section since 2019 in order to respond to the demand from our expectant mothers. According to the preferences of the mothers who applied to our hospital for normal birth after cesarean section; We act as a guide, to provide training opportunities, to relieve doubts and concerns, and to intervene in case of possible complications. The first-year experience of our clinic on normal birth after cesarean section confirms the information in the world and reveals that normal birth after cesarean section is a very active and robust system in our country. With the clinical experience we have gained, studies are still continuing to develop ultrasonographic formulas and web-based ‘DVD success-fortune calculator’ application that aim to predict normal birth success and complication risk after cesarean section.
Who can have a normal birth after cesarean section?
Assoc. Mehmet Serdar Kütük gave details about who can offer the possibility of normal birth after cesarean section:
“The desire and preference of the expectant mother is more valuable than anything else and is the first condition. In addition, women who have only had one cesarean section before, normal birth after cesarean section. They are normal candidates for women who have had two or more cesarean sections. Although normal delivery is possible, the risks for mother and baby are 3 times higher and should not be preferred except in very special cases. Also, previous cesarean section operations are performed with a vertical incision, which we call classical incision, after 28 weeks. “Ordinary birth after cesarean section is not preferred in pregnancies that have undergone a cesarean section under caesarean section, the baby’s weight is over 4500 g, and have had a uterine rupture problem before. The delay in the middle of pregnancies alone does not determine whether the birth will take place in the usual way or not, and it does not prevent normal birth after cesarean section.”
