Is suicide the solution?
Every 40 seconds in the world, 1 person ends his life by committing suicide every day in Turkey, on average 9 people. The suicide rate has increased in recent years. Suicidal ideation is contrary to the structure of the brain and human nature. Because the human brain always has stimuli that develop automatically, such as taking precautions against dangers and trying to keep the individual alive. These stimuli activate the body immediately and we take various actions to survive. For example, against the thief (danger) entering the room, it activates the brain by providing rapid blood flow to various parts of the body and makes it suddenly take the action of escaping. For these reasons, suicidal ideation has been accepted as a mental problem because it is an anti-human way of thinking.
So why do people think or commit suicide?
In individuals with psychological diseases (Bipolar, borderline personality disorder, major depression, etc.) suicide is more thought and experienced because the functions I mentioned above are impaired. For these reasons, they should be directed to psychiatry, and therapy support and drug use should be provided to suppress behaviors, that is, cooperation between psychologists and psychiatrists should be promoted.
Suicidal ideation is inevitable, especially in depressive personalities. Because internal resources are very few and a pessimistic mood prevails. When people with suicidal ideation lose their hope, they find their escape route in suicide because they do not have a safe harbor to cling to. People who have seen or heard about someone committing suicide are more likely to commit suicide.
Experiences in childhood affect people’s entire lives. People who have been neglected, seen and ignored in childhood are more likely to commit suicide than other people. We can count this as a reason for suicide.
If you have suicidal thoughts, ask yourself what you actually want to kill, finish, end. If the answer is something from your life, try to change them and get therapy support..
A client with suicidal ideation described his life as “Hodja, everyone walks the same path, but some sing along. Here I am not one of them, I am one of those who cry”.
