It is the slippage or overflow of the jelly-like cartilage tissue that acts as a cushion between both lumbar vertebrae. This piece of cartilage displaces and presses on the nerve that goes to our legs and feet, causing pain (sciatica) complaints. Back and leg pain increases with coughing, straining, and sneezing. Most of the patients get rid of their complaints with bed rest and drug treatment
. If the pressure on the nerve and spinal cord continues; Complaints such as loss of strength in the leg muscles, loss of sensation, decreased reflexes, and urinary incontinence may occur. Treatment is surgery.
