by clinic

Patient admission has started in the 54-bed hospital built by Kocaeli Metropolitan in Hatay Defne, which is one of the best examples of state and nation cooperation.

The construction of the hospital, which was started by Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality in Defne district of Hatay after the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş, was completed in 20 days with the teams working day and night. Kocaeli Metropolitan Defne Hospital started accepting patients as of Monday, March 6th. 57 health personnel, 12 of whom are doctors, serve in the hospital with 54 beds and an annual capacity of 250 thousand patients. Kocaeli Metropolitan Mayor Tahir Büyükakın, who was transferred to the region again, visited the hospital and met with health personnel and earthquake victims. Stating that they kept all the promises they made in the earthquake area and completed the construction and operation of the hospital in a short time, Mayor Büyükakın said, “This hospital has been a very good example to show what can be done with the cooperation of the state, the nation, NGOs and local administrations. We will continue to stand by and support our brothers in this region until they stand on their own feet and life returns to normal,” he said.

METROPOLITAN TEAMS COMPLETED IN 20 DAYS

After the two major earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş on February 6, one of the most affected places was the Defne district of Hatay. Kocaeli Metropolitan, who worked hard for Defne, who was shaken by the 6.4 earthquake afterwards, established a permanent kitchen with a tent city, container city and logistics center in addition to the distribution of food, clothing and medicine in the district. Kocaeli Metropolitan, which also started the construction of the hospital consisting of 96 containers, completed the infrastructure and superstructure of the hospital in a short time like 20 days. The furnishing and medical device installations of the hospital, which was also supported by MUSIAD, were completed by the Ministry of Health, and then doctors and health personnel were appointed. The 54-bed hospital will serve 250,000 patients annually. In addition to polyclinic services, the hospital also includes an operating room and intensive care units.

PATIENT ACCEPTANCE STARTED

In the hospital, 4 main branches and dentistry services will be provided continuously. General surgery, internal medicine, pediatric, obstetrics and dental outpatient services will be provided in the hospital, and neurology, psychiatry, physical therapy, eye and orthopedic outpatient services will be available on certain days of the week. The Ministry of Health, Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, MUSIAD Karlsruhe, MUSIAD Paris took part in the installation and commissioning of the project. Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality’s teams consisting of ISU, A Team, Transportation, Building Control and Science Works worked day and night in the production of drinking water, sewage, infrastructure, mechanical, electrical and sanitary installations. Health Minister Dr. The hospital, which was also examined by Fahrettin Koca, started to provide polyclinic services with the installation of medical equipment and the appointment of health personnel.

PRESIDENT BÜYÜKAKIN IS IN THE REGION AGAIN

From the first day of the earthquake, Mayor Büyükakın, who coordinated all the aid of Kocaeli Metropolitan in Defne district of Hatay, returned to the region after a short break. Mayor Büyükakın, who came together with the health personnel and earthquake victims after Kocaeli Metropolitan Defne Hospital started to accept patients, said, “Many things were done at the same time here. From the day we arrived, we tried to manage the logistics of aid while we were working to prepare the meals of the citizens, set up their tents and meet their basic needs. We have determined the areas where the hospital and tent city will be established. We coordinated many works such as collecting garbage and spraying,” he said.

”KOÜ PROVIDED SERVICE IN PREFABRICATED IN 99”

Stating that Kocaeli Metropolitan has been working with a team of 800 people from the first day in the earthquake zone, from search and rescue to food distribution, from shelter to infrastructure and superstructure, Mayor Büyükakın said, “We started the construction work of the container city and the hospital. We also worked in coordination with other public institutions and organizations. We did a lot of work together. Our friends worked devotedly until the morning. As a result, this place was finished in 20 days and the patient was started to be treated. I would like to emphasize that this is a normal hospital, not a field hospital that will be established today and removed tomorrow. The only difference is that it is built as a container. It has everything from the operating room to the intensive care unit. It has an indoor area of 2,000 square meters. When I saw this place, I remembered that after the 1999 earthquake, Kocaeli University Hospital served in prefabricated buildings in Derince for years, those days came to my mind” he said.

BÜYÜKAKIN: WE WILL ALWAYS BE WITH YOU

Stating that a thousand kilometers of bridge of heart has been established between Kocaeli and Defne, Mayor Büyükakın concluded his words as follows; “From the first day after the earthquake, we have been at the service of Hatay, Defne and our earthquake survivors. Our healthcare professionals in the hospital we have established here are here with the spirit of national struggle, with great sacrifice, with the spirit of mobilization. Our teams also worked in this spirit. NGOs, especially MUSIAD, happily participate in and support the work. It was a very good example of the unity of the nation, state and local governments. I ask our earthquake survivors to keep their morale high and never leave this place. This is very important for the life here to get back on its feet. We will never leave them, we will always be by their side, our support will continue until they stand on their own feet.
