Neck Anatomy

The neck provides the connection between the head and the body. The neck supports our head and keeps it in a balanced position. It allows the head to move freely in many directions.

The neck consists of 7 cervical vertebrae. The top two of these vertebrae differentiate and attach to the skull bone. There are discs between the neck vertebrae. Discs are actually jelly-like cushions that prevent the vertebrae from rubbing against each other. The task of the discs is to transmit the amount of load falling on it to the lower levels in a balanced way.

Neck vertebrae are held together by discs and strong ligaments. This system gains flexibility and strength with the muscles.

The spinal cord and nerves pass through the neck spine. The spinal cord is a 2 cm thick structure that transmits the commands it receives from the brain to the whole body.

Nerves emerging from the spinal cord in the neck provide the movement, sensation and strength of our hands and arms.

A healthy neck is a balanced neck. To maintain this balance, the neck spine has a natural inclination. Maintaining this slope is very important for a comfortable and pain-free neck. If this inclination is disrupted, degeneration and deterioration begin in the neck spine. This increases neck and arm pain.
