ONLINE THERAPY
Online psychotherapy sessions take place in the form of video calls on the internet. These are the sessions held by the therapist and the client on the day and time they have determined, via computer, tablet and phone video calls. It is a preferred way of working for individuals who have a disability or time problem in accessing the office and live far from the therapy center. Online therapy has become very functional during the pandemic period, when all humanity around the world restricts their movements and tries not to get involved in crowds. In many studies investigating the effectiveness of online therapy, it has been shown that it is no different from face-to-face therapies in the office environment, and that it is as effective as face-to-face sessions.
There are rules to be followed in online sessions as well as in therapy sessions held in the office environment.
-Therapist and client should attend the sessions in an environment where they will not be disturbed and where they are alone.
It is important that the room they are in is bright and quiet.
It is important to have an easy and uninterrupted internet connection during online therapy. The internet network and technological devices to be used should be checked before the session.
Advantages of Online Therapy
- Online therapy is more accessible and practical compared to sessions held in an office setting. The client does not need to take the time to go to the therapist’s office. Sessions can be held in a quiet and bright room where the client feels safe and will not be disturbed.
- In some rural areas where clients live, it can be difficult to find a specialist psychologist. However, it can be difficult to travel from the area they live to the area where the therapist’s office is located and to attend the sessions regularly. Therefore, online therapy becomes more functional and accessible in sessions that cannot be attended regularly and in cases where there is no chance to reach a competent psychotherapist.
- It may be difficult for the client to leave the place where they are due to physical or mental problems. With online therapy, the client has the opportunity to get support from where they are for physical or psychological problems.
