What do you know about probiotics? In fact, it is a much broader and deeper subject than what we have heard. Probiotic is a general name given to live bacteria or fungi that give health to people. The benefit of consuming sour milk or yogurt was known in history. However, for the first time in 1900, Russian scientist Metchnikov’s research on why people living in the Caucasus and consuming Kefir lived longer, made a lot of noise and won the Nobel Prize. Today, studies on probiotics are carried out in many areas. In children, probiotics are recommended in foods or as tablets / powder in different situations. One of these is necrotizing enterocolitis (intestinal inflammation). In adults, many studies have been conducted in cases such as antibiotic-associated diarrhea, some inflammatory bowel diseases, diverticulitis, allergic diseases, and atopic dermatitis. Possibly probiotics are one of the treatments of the future. Nowadays, with increasing resistance to antibiotics, it seems that treatments suitable for human nature will be preferred more. Whether it is related to a longer life will be seen with further studies. However, the most striking finding in recent years is that there is a relationship between conditions such as obesity and diabetes and intestinal bacteria. I will share this topic with you in detail later. See you.
