FEET INCONTINENCE IN CHILDREN
Enuresis(Urinary incontinence), Encopresis(Fecal incontinence)
Enuresis-Encopresis can be mentioned if the child is at least 5 years old and makes voluntary or involuntary toilets in inappropriate places at least 2-3 times a week for 3 months.
Causes of Fecal Incontinence
Physiological Causes: Sphincter (child’s related muscles) control disorder, constipation, giving or not completing toilet training may be hereditary. If the parents have a history of late toilet habits, the same discomfort can be seen in the child. If the child is extremely tired or if they drink a lot of fluids before going to bed and do not go to the toilet, they may wet themselves.
Relational Causes: Parental Causes; father’s distance and mother’s neurotic characteristics. In particular, the mother’s either overly strict or careless lax attitude in toilet training. originating from the child; neurological, cognitive and physical developmental delays, irrational fantasies and fears about toilet and going to the toilet, the child’s generally stubborn resistance to toilet training. Stress; Changes in the school or home environment after the death of a relative (change of school, moving, divorce, adding a new baby to the family) may cause bedwetting.
It is especially common in children experiencing sibling jealousy. The older child is jealous of the attention given to the younger child and starts acting like a younger brother to get the attention. There are regressions in behaviors such as peeing, asking for food from a bottle, and talking like a baby even though he can talk.
The problem may also be of emotional origin. The shocks, accidents, indifference, lack of love or excessive love experienced by the child are the causes of bedwetting.
Some children suffer from severe constipation, causing pain when going to the toilet, and fear and avoidance of going to the toilet. That’s why the big toilet accumulates in the intestines and causes a bigger blockage.
Some Cases Seen Related to This Issue
Many signs of incompatibility are observed in children who cannot hold their stools. These children often act as if they are younger than their age. Addiction, stubbornness, limited or broken friendships, incompatibility with the environment and school, and lack of attention are the most typical symptoms observed.
Experiencing defecation only at home is the most prominent feature of the problematic relationship between the child and his mother. With this behavior, the child wants to both rebel against his mother and attract his mother’s attention. Conflicts between mother and child often result in punishments, intimidation and beatings. However, the child will resist going to the toilet. In the treatment of preventing this problem, parents should not criticize the child, no matter how angry they get. Unnecessary pressures should be removed from children with such habits and excessive rigorous situations should be abandoned. After having a positive relationship with the child, it will be easier to regulate his defecation. Punishment and beating should be stopped, and one should sit on the toilet at regular intervals 3-4 times a day with a definite attitude. It should be known that tying a diaper under the child and remaining completely silent in the face of this situation will reinforce enuresis/encopresis.
