Technological Life and Psychology

It is seen that today’s world has become the world of technology. Technological development has entered human life in a fast and brutal way and is becoming an indispensable concept. Smartphones, television, tablets, computers and vehicles… And people and children who are stunned by this change… Those who get lost in this process to keep up with the change…

Human beings have many features in terms of hardware. One of the most important of these is adaptability. Although it can adapt to changes and differences, it is seen that it cannot keep up with the speed of technology. In the race between technology companies, the losing side is the parents and children. Individuals with low awareness levels are seriously affected by this rapid change. Control must be in the hands of the individual. When the use of smart technological devices is out of the control of the person, serious individual and social problems occur. These problems both affect the individual economically and psychologically and aggravate social peace and development.

The positive effect of technology on human life is an undeniable fact. The negative side of the effect is quite high. So how does this effect differ? How do situations that should be positive lead to negative consequences? In order to get away from these negative consequences, should we completely remove technology from our lives? But at this time, we are faced with many questions such as we cannot escape, we do not know how to do it. Stress, anxiety, depression, etc. can be experienced by individuals who cannot find answers to these questions and resist whether they accept the change or not. Many psychological problems arise. Any situation that is out of control can cause problems. Simply put, there are many factors that reduce communication and interaction between husband and wife. Evening events gave way to tea conversations, games on smart phones and videos watched on tablet televisions. It is seen that this creates serious problems between couples and the number of marriages resulting in divorce has increased. While the lack of communication is the most serious problem of our day, the real form of communication has left its place to virtual communication on social networks. While the decrease in contact between people caused problems to increase, conflicts and unrest began to increase gradually. It is seen that this situation, which is caused by individuals who have difficulty in controlling the opportunities that technology offers to people, loses control of their own psychology and begins to harm themselves, the environment and the society.

Anxiety and stress can occur as a result of any behavior that is lost control. Individuals who are anxious and stressed without realizing it can harm themselves and others in their business, social and family life. As a result of damaged relationships, many relationships can end and individuals can become lonely. Individuals who are lonely may seek consolation in the social realms, games, etc. that technology offers to human life, and become even more lonely and enter depressive modes. Work life may be endangered… It is observed that children’s school attendance decreases, their academic success decreases, etc. problems are observed. Children who are captive of smartphones are getting lazy and captive to social media. Experiencing forbidden events in a realm far from reality seriously harms their perception of reality and it is seen that they have moved away from their existential goals.

SO WHAT TO DO?

• Technological developments should be followed, but the control should be within the individual.

• As soon as there are negativities in business, social and family life, these problems should be confronted and steps should be taken to increase the quality of life.

• Correct steps should be taken to adapt to technological developments; It should not become a habit and an addiction.

• Usage periods should be taken into consideration, unnecessary use should be avoided.

• Progress should be made under parental control in children.

• When you feel negative effects in your life, support from experts should be sought.

• The possibilities offered by technology to human life should not be used as a “solution”, but as a helper on the way to a solution.
