Spinal tumors

by clinic

Spinal tumors are tumoral formations originating from the spinal cord itself or the spinal cord support tissues or the bone tissues that make up the spine. Such a tumor can cause spinal cord compression, causing paralysis and death. Often laminectomy and sometimes hemilaminectomy are required to remove the tumor. Laminectomy and hemilaminectomy is the process of removing a piece of bone from the posterior part of the spinal canal. Different methods are used in the removal of tumors involving the front of the spine.

The surgical aim is to completely remove the tumor, relieve all spinal cord and nerves from pressure, and establish a system that will form interbone fusion by providing spinal alignment support in the remaining section.

There are 3 types of spinal cord and spinal tumors:

• Extra-dural spinal tumor: Tumors outside the membrane surrounding the spinal cord.

• Intra-dural extra-medullary tumor: Tumors inside the spinal cord, outside the spinal cord

• Intra-dural intra-medullary tumor: Tumors inside the spinal cord

Alternatives:

• Not to have surgery by taking all kinds of risks

• Medical drugs and periodic radiological (CT, MR) examinations

• Radiation therapy according to the type of tumor, gamma knife, cyber knife

• Trying to resolve complaints with physical therapy methods
