If your doctor says “-You may have high blood pressure and diabetes in the future due to your insulin resistance”, it may not be surprising to you, but the words “-Your mother’s poor nutrition as a child may cause you or even your child to have obesity or heart disease” or “- If you say that your father may have started smoking at an early age under your overweight, how many of us would find this convincing? The Wellness program for women who want to become mothers is considered an important step for giving birth to a healthy child and healthy generations.
The international organization, whose short name is HEC (Human Epigenome Consortium), has been carrying out important studies on this issue since February 2010. The “human epigenome map” is expected to be announced when the Human Epigenome Project run by HEC is finalized. It is predicted that this study will open an important window after the “human genome map”.
Thanks to the Human Genome Project, we know that the 3 billion base pairs in our DNA, which are wrapped on the chromosomes in our cells, encode around 25,000 genes and their locations on the chromosome map. If we accept this genetic code complex called the “genome” as a computer chip, it is possible to compare the “epigenome” to operating system software. Just as when you install different operating systems on the same computer, it gains different characteristics. The human epigenome enables people to separate from each other even if they have the same genes. In other words, the “programming” of the baby in the mother’s womb is shaped by intrauterine biochemical and hormonal effects (the suffix “epi” means “on/out” in ancient Greek. Epigenome means outside the genome)
Pre-pregnancy or Regardless of the conditions after the pregnancy starts (ie, inside the uterus), the diseases that occur in the baby or child are genetic, while the diseases that are prevented from occurring when these conditions are changed or managed correctly are of epigenetic origin. Even if you have not inherited a serious disease from your mother or father, if you do not eat properly, do not exercise, and do not take the appropriate functional foods and vitamins when necessary, you may not only risk your own health, but also cause an epigenetic disease in your child. This is a very important responsibility for future mothers.
Future mothers should ask themselves these questions
Am I doing the right things for a healthy and quality life?
Will I have a healthy pregnancy in the future, am I doing what needs to be done to increase this probability?
Am I doing the right things today to deliver a healthy baby?
Who should I get help from in order not to lose my health and fitness during and after pregnancy?
Is there anything I need to do today to help my child become a healthy adult?
