The tent city established by Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality in Defne district of Hatay has turned into a new social living space. Making statements to local and national press members during the establishment of the tent city, Metropolitan Mayor Tahir Büyükakın stated that they aim to transform this area into a social life center in a short time.

 

EVERYTHING FOR THEM

Metropolitan provides a wide range of services to meet the needs of earthquake victims staying in tent cities. Tens of thousands of dishes, soup, bread and water are distributed every day from the permanent kitchen established by Antikkapı for the residents of the tent city. Kocaeli City Theaters organizes various plays and shows for children staying in the tent city. In the tent city of Kocaeli Metropolitan, each tent has a heater, electricity and lighting. In addition to the cameras and the announcement system, military personnel are on duty in the tent city, which has been made secure by closing the perimeter with wire mesh. metropolitan staff; provides food production and distribution, security, cleaning, transportation, electricity, plumbing and infrastructure services. In the tent city with free wifi, there are generators in case of a power outage. In the tent city where toilets, showers, washing machines and dryers are located, a playground and a mini football field for children were built by the Metropolitan.

The Kocaeli Chamber of Pharmacists provides free medicines to earthquake victims in the field pharmacy established by the Metropolitan Municipality. Public institutions and organizations, chambers, associations and NGOs also support the return of life to normal with their activities. In the field of Psychosocial Support Children, established by the Ministry of Family and Social Services in the tent city, the healing power of games is utilized to ensure that children are least affected by the trauma of the earthquake. Oral and dental care and treatment of earthquake victims are carried out in the mobile vehicle brought to the tent city by Konya Metropolitan Municipality and Konya Chamber of Dentists. In the library and study center established by the Ministry of National Education, volunteer trainers are working to ensure that primary, secondary and high school students do not fall behind in their classes.

 

FREE GLASSES SUPPLY

Again, the glasses of those staying in the tent city are provided free of charge by the Konya Metropolitan Municipality and the Konya Chamber of Opticians. In the tent city, where education and psychosocial support are provided for children with special needs, there is a field hospital where earthquake victims are examined by local and foreign doctors, a movie theater, a cafeteria, a mobile bread oven, a permanent disaster kitchen where 3 meals a day, a soup kitchen, and 6 social markets.
