Vaginismus
The anatomical region where sexual intercourse occurs in women is called the vagina. The condition of involuntary contraction of the muscles at the entrance of the vagina and the inability of the woman to allow sexual intercourse despite her desire is called vaginismus.
These women experience a state of anxiety, fear, and panic. These women, who think that their hymen is too thick or their vaginas are too narrow, try to protect themselves with the expectation of pain. It narrows, hardens and makes joining impossible due to contractions.
It is classified as sexual pain disorder in the classification of sexual dysfunctions in the medical literature. Painful sexual intercourse is dyspareunia. This condition and vaginismus can trigger each other.
Vaginismus is a problem of procrastination. Even if the person prepares himself for sexual intercourse during the day, when that moment comes he gives up and decides to do it later. Thus, days, months and even years may pass.
Causes of vaginismus include inadequacy of sexual education, guilt, feelings of shame and sin, mental and physical traumas experienced in childhood and adolescence, a conservative and oppressive family environment, false sexual information and fears about the first night.
Fear of the first night, especially in our country, worries young couples who are getting married. Even if the person they marry is someone they love and fall in love with, sexual intercourse that will be experienced for the first time can cause fear. There are many false beliefs, namely myths, about the first night. Myths such as bleeding or pain can create fear. Young girls who are raised in a sexist and oppressive family environment are at risk.
Both parties are excited in the first experience, and sexuality is presented as a task and performance area that needs to be achieved can also create tension. However, there is no blood, pain and stress in the nature of sexuality. Lack of sexual behavior and knowledge, lack of emotional preparation for these to happen it causes.
Sometimes, a person may have vaginismus even without such risk factors in the background. In this case, the reason may not be at the level of awareness. You may not realize at the conscious level the reason why your unconscious gave the command “close the vagina and do not allow intercourse”. In this case, the treatment plan is according to it. is constructed.
Although it is a disease that makes both parties so unhappy in married life, its treatment is quite satisfactory.
