RISK FACTORS

RISK FACTORS ARE IMPORTANT FOR WHAT CAN CHANGE.

YOU CANNOT CHANGE YOUR AGE, GENDER AND GENETIC STRUCTURE.

BUT YOU CAN CHANGE OTHERS.

Let’s see the first step on the risk for Cardiovascular Diseases.

Metabolic Syndrome

If we say sedentary, overweight, belly people, we will summarize.

1. Increased waist circumference: 102 cm in men, over 88 cm in women

2. High triglyceride level: higher than 150 mg/dl (or medication)

3. Low HDL level: 50 mg/dl in women and 40 mg/dl in men

4. High blood pressure: higher than 135/90 mmHg (or medication)

5. Impaired fasting blood sugar: Between 100-125 mg/dl of fasting blood sugar

  • The coexistence of at least 3 of the 5 conditions is called metabolic syndrome.
  • Metabolic syndrome increases the risk of heart disease 2 times and the risk of developing diabetes 5 times compared to those who do not.
  • It is seen in 10-20% of the society.

Cardiovascular Diseases What are the risk factors?

1. FAMILY STORY: By the way, the family is first-degree relatives. Mom, dad and siblings..

2. DIABETES: It is the most important. If the patient uses insulin, there is a possibility that other organs will be affected. This is what makes things worse.

68% of people aged 65 and over with diabetes die from heart disease, 18% from stroke.

3. SMOKING: It is life-threatening and affects life expectancy twice. Rates drop immediately in those who quit smoking. Passive smokers continue to be at risk.

4. HIGH BLOODTENSION

The risk of heart attack and stroke doubles when systolic blood pressure rises by two points and diastolic blood pressure by 1 point.

5. HIGH CHOLESTEROL:

The limits used for high cholesterol go from 200 for Total Cholesterol and from 120 to 100 for LDL bad cholesterol. HDL must be at least over 40.

Are we comfortable when we provide these?

No We are not?

Because there is a subject that is known but not told or forgotten.

If the cholesterol goes below these values, then we can solve the problem of vascular occlusion.

6. OBESITY / OBESITY: It is one of the main factors in this regard. It is very important for protection. If you add sleep apnea to this, things get even more complicated. I always ask my patients “Sleep Apnea: Snoring”.

Fatty liver is also an issue that needs attention since it is now considered the first stage for arteriosclerosis.

7. GENDER: The risk factor for it is being MALE. Nowadays, women have started to train women to men, especially with smoking, obesity and sugar. In fact, Red Heart days are held in America. To draw attention to Heart Disease in Women.

8. AGE: The limit, which used to be 45, is now down to 40.

9. INACTIVITY: Inactivity is important for both cardiac performance and metabolic characteristics, fat (cholesterol) metabolism. Walking is the simplest exercise in this respect.

THE MAIN ISSUE IS TO MAKE IT REGULARLY AND IN A WAY TO RISE OVER THE RESTING HEART RATE.
