What is Excimer Laser (Eye drawing surgery)?
It is a knife-free and reliable treatment method that has been applied for more than 20 years and is the gold standard in the correction of myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism in people older than 18 years of age. These operations are performed under local drop anesthesia, 2 eyes are treated at the same time, no pain is felt during the procedure, the eye is not closed after the procedure. These are short-term surgeries that do not require hospitalization.
How many types of excimer laser methods are there?
There are 2 types of excimer laser methods.
1- PRK: In a way, the epithelial layer, which is the most surface layer of the cornea (think of it as the layer of the skin that peels off in the sun and renews itself), is removed, then laser is applied, contact lenses are placed, the epithelial layer heals itself within 3 days. After the 1st week, the vision gradually improves and in the first month the patient usually sees very well. It is a very effective and reliable method in the treatment of myopia and astigmatism, especially in thin corneas.
2- FEMTO LASIK: A flap of approximately one-fifth the size of the cornea, which we call a flap, is removed from the surface. Then the laser is performed and the flap is closed again. Myopia astigmatism and hyperopia can be corrected. The patient has clear vision the next day and can return to work.
Is every patient suitable for this surgery?
Unfortunately, one of the 2 patients is not suitable for this surgery. There are international criteria for this. According to the size of the pupil, dryness of the eye, inclination, thickness and regularity of the pupil, especially in the dark, with many preoperative examinations, the patient’s laser
We decide on your suitability for surgery. Then, on the day of surgery, we introduce the patient’s eye to the device and take the patient into surgery accordingly. Since the device recognizes the eye and pupil before the operation, the device follows the eye even if the patient moves his eye during the surgery, and even stops the laser process if the eye goes out of the area where the device can make laser. In this way, the operation is completed with almost zero margin of error. The light waves entering our eyes enter parallel, but as they pass through the vitreous, lens and cornea in our eyes while returning, the light returns here as waves and causes deviations (aberrations). In the past, in standard laser technologies, it was aimed only to reduce the patient’s number and bring it closer to zero. Today, in personalized treatments (wawefront laser), we can not only save the patient from glasses, but also provide better quality vision. In the method we call Wawefront laser (eagle eye laser) (A technique developed for the elimination of aberrations in the eye as a result of adapting the technique used by NASA to clarify the image in space explorations to eye surgeries), a personalized treatment plan is prepared, unlike the glasses values.
and laser is applied with this map. It gives excellent results especially in irregular astigmatism and people with excessive intraocular aberrations. Especially in patients with corneal irregularity, low vision due to laziness, and night vision problems, better quality and better vision, which cannot be obtained with standard treatment, is provided.
