Glutathione, a molecule found in every cell in our body, is one of the most important antioxidants.
I wrote this article when my patients asked what are some risk factors that increase the possibility of glutathione deficiency:
- Getting older: Studies have revealed that some older people suffer from glutathione deficiency because their bodies synthesize glutathione more slowly than younger age groups.
- Bowel Diseases: Inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s and Ulcerative colitis have been shown to reduce glutathione production.
- Adrenal gland disorders: Researchers note that levels are reduced in patients with “Chronic fatigue syndrome.”
- Some Athletes: Athletes who train very hard without adequate nutrition and rest may be at risk. Regular, moderate exercise helps raise glutathione levels, but overdoing it can actually reduce production.
- Diabetes: Studies in patients with uncontrolled type 2 diabetes have found “severely deficient” glutathione levels.
Even if you fall into any of the above categories, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have a glutathione deficiency. I just suggest you be careful ????.
I wish you healthy days
