WHY DID 100 THOUSAND STUDENTS DRAW ZERO?
Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) statistics have been announced. In the university exam, which was removed from the dam, 96 thousand 516 candidates scored zero from the Basic Proficiency Test (TYT). The reason why the number of zeros has increased so much this year is that with the abolition of the dam, even our students, who had no idea of taking the exam at all, applied with the desire to settle somewhere. While YKS applications were around 2 million 600 thousand last year, this year it increased to over 3 million 200 thousand, so the number of students increased by around 600 thousand. With this backlog, we can say that the quotas will be even more insufficient and unfortunately many students will be disappointed again. By looking at all these data, we can see that our education system is in an impasse. So, is this failure the failure of the student or the failure of the education system?

MAIN PROBLEMS IN THE EDUCATION SYSTEM
We all know that one of Turkey’s main problems is the education system. The education system is the most important factor in the development, progress, regional development of a society and its ability to rise to a level that can compete with the world’s states. So, can economic, social and cultural problems be solved with the education system? The answer is yes. In this context, the education system is closely related to the future vision of a country. For this reason, it is imperative that our education program be predictively compatible with the future world order and be re-planned with an understanding that aims to advance in many fields, especially in economy, and keep up with the times. If the education system we implement cannot achieve the strategic goals of our country and cannot train well-equipped individuals, it is necessary to reconsider the education system. First of all, creating a production-based education system should be the most important goal. Can students generate ideas in their economic, social and cultural fields? Can he find various channels that can bring these ideas to life? Unfortunately, our answer to this question is negative under current conditions.
Major Problems of Our Education System and Some Suggestions
1. Exam system
In our country, an exam system that is likely to change every year and cannot be regulated is applied, and before our students prepare for the exam, they ask, “I wonder if the exam system will change this year?” He begins to work with concern. However, the training of the TYT exam, which is the Basic Proficiency Test, is insufficient. The TYT exam is an exam format that is completely based on reading comprehension and logic. The AYT exam in the second session is a field proficiency exam and is applied to measure knowledge. Looking at the exam results, it is clear that we have problems in the education of both fields.
2. The Teacher Problem
We all know that the foundation of the education system is teachers. The talents of the candidates to be trained as teachers should be determined at an early age. Candidate teachers should have graduated from university with their professional equipment. Teachers should be constantly informed about developing technology and new education methods. In addition, educators should see education and training as a whole, and should not focus only on teaching. If we can succeed in training qualified teachers and increase the opportunities of teachers, we can achieve a great improvement in our education system. However, it is essential to make it a state policy to increase the prestige of teachers in society. Let’s not forget that every student wants to meet a teacher who will make him discover him in life.
3. Curriculum
We can easily say that the curriculum is the heart of education. In this period when we live in the age of information and technology, it is imperative that this information be reflected in school books as the knowledge of humanity increases. The Ministry of National Education makes additions and adjustments to the school books almost every year. For this reason, it is necessary for our teachers to renew themselves every year in line with this information. In addition, the reorganization of the curriculum in line with applied education rather than knowledge transfer is one of the steps to be taken in this direction. In addition to this, physical infrastructure in education, inadequacy of equipment, examination problems in transition to secondary and higher education, and not abandoning the classical education approach can be added to these problems. Differences between rural and urban schools, inequality of opportunities and opportunities in education, the intensity and inadequacy of the education program, the inability of the education system to keep up with the change, the inadequacy of teachers and personnel, the insufficient budget allocated for education, and the examination-oriented and grade-based education can all be evaluated within this framework.
