
Beylikdüzü Municipality provides psychological support to prevent the process of earthquake victims living in the tent city of Hatay İskenderun from turning into a tram and becoming chronic.
Expert psychologists who observe the situation of children in group works, dances, drawings and workshops carry out appropriate psychosocial first aid work.
Beylikdüzü Municipality aims to minimize the trauma caused by the devastating effect of the earthquake with the children’s playground and mobile library it has established in the tent city in Hatay İskenderun. Children who participate in social activities such as theater, cinema and puppet shows, with the support of expert psychologists, get rid of the effects of the earthquake to some extent.
“To make children smile”
Aslı Hilal Çiftçi, an expert clinical psychologist of Beylikdüzü Municipality, who stated that they continue to work to make children smile again and to overcome this process with the least psychological damage, said, “We support adults as well as children in the areas we have created in our tent city.
“When a child shows anger or cries, they need to know how to calm him down,” he said. Stating that they observe the situation of children in group works, dances, drawings and workshops they do and they also conduct individual interviews accordingly, Çiftçi said, “We do relaxation exercises in individual meetings. There is still an unfinished process. We are in a period of crisis. Actually, we are talking about psychosocial first aid. We are working with all our strength so that this does not turn into a tram for children and does not become chronic.”
