Shoulder muscle tear is a very painful disease. Shoulder pain and neck pain can often be confused with each other. The proportions of this mixture can go up to 40%. This can hit the shoulder, or a problem in the shoulder can present as neck pain. But if there are specific problems in the shoulder, especially shoulder pain is described to us as a downward pain on the side of the arm. Neck pain, on the other hand, is the neck pain that is reflected in the area we call the trapezius behind the shoulder. These tests are easy and can be easily understood by examination. In shoulder pain, patients usually apply to the doctor with the complaint of serious pain, especially at night.
The shoulder is an important joint because we use our shoulder for many functions such as maintaining hygiene and eating. The muscles here cause tearing, especially due to vascular malnutrition due to aging over the years. This brings out the pain. The shoulder is an important structure in particular because between two bone structures, there is no soft tissue on the pyrithione, that is, the ground tendon, there is a bone just above it. This narrowing causes a tear, especially when we raise our head and arm above the head. And it gives shoulder pain. In the past, these were not visible at earlier ages because life expectancy has increased. People can be very vigorous at the age of 70-80. As a disadvantage of these, shoulder pain started to be seen more frequently. Rheumatism can be one of the diseases that will cause pain especially in the shoulder. Some people work their hands over their heads. These can be athletes playing volleyball, basketball, or just like the curtain up. But age is also an important factor in shoulder tears. We can see shoulder pain or shoulder problems in one of two patients aged 60-70 years. Especially when patients go to bed at night, they experience problems and pain. It can occur at rest. Over time, the pain causes limitation of movement. First of all, the patient’s story should be listened to well. It should be determined whether it is due to a fall, a trauma, or whether it occurs suddenly without any trauma. Afterwards, the patient undergoes a physical examination. Checking if there is a restriction. Then, a detailed examination is performed with x-ray and MRI examinations. It turns out that there is a tear in the muscle. According to the size of the tear, if the tear is small, patients can regain their health with physical therapy after shoulder injection with very low dose cortisone. 80-90% of patients with small tears can get rid of their complaints. However, surgical method is used in more severe tears. If the tear is large, the repair becomes more difficult, and then those patients are referred directly to surgery so that they do not waste time. If the pain has been present for at least 6 months, if the rotator cuff tear is large, if you have experienced a serious acute tear, if there is loss of function, if there is weakness, if it prevents you from sleeping at night, surgical treatment is recommended. It is possible to perform arthroscopic surgery in the surgical treatment of shoulder tears.
