The field hospital established by Izmir Metropolitan in Hatay embraces volunteer physicians
Otorhinolaryngology Specialist Tur Yıldız Biçer, who works as a volunteer physician in the field hospital established by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality in Hatay, said, “I would like to thank İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer, who gave us the opportunity to practice our profession and to work in the field. This is a great service,” he said.
While the field hospital established by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in Hatay provided uninterrupted service to the earthquake victims, it also opened its doors to volunteer physicians. Ear Nose and Throat Specialist and former CHP Deputy Tur Yıldız Biçer, who applied to İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Eşrefpaşa Hospital voluntarily with a request to go to the earthquake area, said, “I applied to the Ministry of Health through the Governor of Manisa on the day of the earthquake. I said that I wanted to work as a volunteer physician. But unfortunately, the Ministry of Health was not able to organize me or the other volunteer physicians who applied to work in the field. Currently, many of my physician friends are waiting voluntarily. When I learned that our Izmir Metropolitan Municipality had established a coordination center and a field hospital here, I applied to the chief physician of Eşrefpaşa Hospital. I heard that they are looking for a volunteer doctor. One day later, I came here with a team of about 20 people from Eşrefpaşa Hospital.”
“Actually, to do what the Ministry of Health cannot do”
Tur Yıldız Biçer, who stated that they were visiting the villages of Samandağ when he came to Hatay, said, “Every day, our mobile ambulance and our mobile dental team were on the field to scan in line with the requests coming from village to village. It was a very good service. First of all, I would like to thank Tunç Soyer, the Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, who gave us the opportunity to practice our profession and to work in the field. This is a great service. This is actually doing what the Ministry of Health cannot do. And I call out to the volunteers; really needed here. The patient is taken care of 24 hours a day. They can apply easily. Working conditions here are also very good.
24-hour uninterrupted service
Tur Biçer Yıldız said that they were in a position to welcome emergency patients in the stage hospital and said, “We have an operating room, a laboratory, a cabin for x-rays. I even witnessed that the 112 ambulance brought the emergency patient to us from 35 kilometers away. Therefore, we provide a comprehensive service with an expert staff. Our clinic is open 24 hours a day. We provide services to earthquake victims who apply at night. We see cases of scabies, lice. The traumas are too much,” he said.
