Fever higher than -38.5ºC.
– MAY BE NORMAL in the first 24-48 hours after general anesthesia. However, fever that starts later or lasts longer than 48 hours should be a reason for reapplying.

Swelling

The arthroscopic procedure is related to the accumulation of fluid in the soft tissues around the shoulder and usually resolves within the first 24-48 hours. The first surgical dressing can create fullness. This dressing can be replaced with dry dressing if necessary. In case of ongoing swelling, a visit may be required before your scheduled appointment. Some bleeding in the shoulder is common, about 48 hours after removal of the bony spur. This bleeding is due to gravity and can turn into bruising. It usually dissipates in up to 3-4 days and should be no cause for concern. There may be bruising following surgery after fractures and rotator cuff surgeries.

Nausea

It is common in the first few hours after general anesthesia. Relatively soft food is recommended for the first few days after surgery to reduce the chance of nausea if severe nausea persists or makes you unable to do your job.

Dress / Shower Care

Your shoulder is covered with a dressing in a sterile environment in the operating room. Dressings and coatings are no longer necessary after three days. At this point you can look through your skin for any signs of infection. (fever, rash, drainage) and you can take a shower after three days.

The incision (surgical wound) does not need to be closed unless instructed by your doctor. Water may come in unless pressurized, but do not vigorously scrub or attempt to wash the area. Dry the area after showering and dry dressing can be done if desired. Avoid creams, ointments, or ointments unless told to do so by your doctor.
Soaking surgical wounds in a tub, pool, or hot tub is prohibited until instructed by your doctor (usually 10-14 days after surgery).

Hanger

Your arm can be placed on the sling for your post-operative comfort. Do not stop using the sling when the rotator cuff is repaired or after fracture surgeries. After the rotator cuff repair, you will be suspended for approximately 6 weeks. Squeeze the fingers with the stress ball and move the wrist in all directions (clockwise and counterclockwise) to keep the repair adequate

From the next day of the surgery, please do at least 20-30 times a day several times a day, especially to start the elbow movements with full opening and at the same time the wrist movements. These movements will prevent shoulder swelling as well as elbow and wrist movement limitation.

Ice

It is very helpful in reducing pain, inflammation and swelling in the shoulder. Ice can be applied for twenty minutes several times a day. A break of one hour or more between ice applications is generally recommended.

Physical Therapy

Physiotherapy will be discussed with you at your first post-operative visit. Goal Treatment is to reduce the stiffness and limitations that may occur to begin healing. Physiotherapy should be started approximately 4-6 weeks after rotator cuff repair and Bankart (recurrent dislocation) procedures.

Drive

Patients are prohibited from driving until they are away from all narcotic drugs and leave the sling. Driving a vehicle, whether automatic or not, is inconvenient unless it gains enough strength and mobility and can be used comfortably by both hands.

Medicines

No combination of drugs recommended by your doctor to relieve you in the postoperative period can eliminate all your pain. But a drug combination regimen is effective at reducing pain and inflammation. The following drugs will be given to you in the follow-ups. The Parol 500 mg tablet should be taken by mouth three times a day for about ten days to reduce swelling, inflammation and help with pain. For the first few days, this medicine may cause stomach upset and should always be taken with food. Please inform your doctor about past ulcer or reflux history and change this prescription as needed.

If constipation occurs, try eating whole grains (with 8-10 grams of fiber) and drink plenty of fluids.
