
Turkish Ophthalmology Association has been continuing its support activities in the disaster area since the first day after the earthquake that affected 11 provinces. President of the Turkish Ophthalmology Association Prof. Dr. While Ziya Kapran continued his coordination studies in different cities, containers were provided to Adıyaman University Faculty of Medicine and material support was provided to Gaziantep University Medical Faculty Hospital.
prof. Dr. Ziya Kapran stated that they have been in close contact with the managers of the Turkish Ophthalmology Association branches and the doctors working in the hospitals in the region since the first moment of the earthquake, and said, “Since the first day, we have been working to meet the needs of our people and our physicians. As TOD, we are aware, we have a long way to go, we will always continue to stand by the people of the region.”
The Turkish Ophthalmology Association continues its support activities in the earthquake zone without interruption. TOD President Prof. Dr. Ziya Kapran, TOD Secretary General Prof. Dr. Huban Atilla and TOD Central Board Member Prof. Dr. Kıvanç Güngör visited the provinces of Gaziantep, Kahramanmaraş, Adıyaman and Hatay on February 17 and February 23 and identified the needs in the region. prof. Dr. Ziya Kapran pointed out that the most important need in the region is the need for shelter and said, “We decided to buy 5 containers in this context. Although it is difficult to procure containers, we delivered the first container we bought to Adıyaman University Training and Research Hospital on February 14th. Our process to supply 4 containers continues, and we continue our efforts to make the others available to physicians in cities where they are needed as soon as possible.” said.

Dr. Ziya Kapran stated that they are trying to provide material support as well as container support, and in this context, they delivered 1,000 serums to be used in Crush Syndrome cases applied to Gaziantep University Medical Faculty Hospital. Stating that as the Turkish Ophthalmology Association, which has been operating in our country for 95 years and is the only association representing Turkish ophthalmologists, Kapran said, “We lost 4 ophthalmologists in the earthquake. We are deeply saddened by all our citizens who lost their lives in the disaster. All of our members and TOD Central Board Members, physician colleagues, know that we have a long way to go, and we still have a lot of work to do.
