Unfortunately, most of the people do not have enough awareness about their diseases. While writhing in pain, they do not prefer to go to the doctor, but they resort to some methods that are not based on any scientific basis. We witness hundreds of unscientific practices, from patients who have honey, figs, and fish tied around their waists, to patients who have their skin dangerously cut, burned, leeched or unconsciously pulled.
We even come across patients who have a needle threaded around their waist to relieve pain.
However, lumbar hernia is not the only type and it is necessary to apply different treatment methods at different stages of the disease. As a result, although it is possible to recover with a simple treatment, we frequently encounter patients who have become surgical as a result of unconscious practices.
This issue is a serious problem. However, everyone, especially us doctors, has an important role to play in solving the problem. Educational institutions and the media need to take a more active attitude in informing and raising awareness of the public.

In the twenty-first century, where diagnosis and treatment methods are advancing with giant strides, it is a great contradiction to see that unscientific methods such as threading the waist with a needle are used instead of resorting to medical treatment.
If the patient with such a large lumbar hernia loses time with unscientific methods, sometimes irreversible disorders may occur.
