Diabetes is manifested by complaints such as frequent thirst and the need to urinate, constant hunger, weight loss, vision changes, fatigue and delayed healing of wounds. Noting that most of the cases were Type-2 Diabetes, Assoc. Dr. Ekinci said, “A healthy diet, regular physical activity, maintaining normal body weight and avoiding smoking are the most basic approaches that prevent or delay the development of diabetes.”
Annual screening recommendation for those with risk factors
Assoc. Dr. Ekinci said, “People with diabetes in their first and second degree relatives, obese individuals, individuals with insulin resistance, people who have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes before, women who have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes during pregnancy, who have a sedentary life and who are physically weak. people who are not active enough, people who eat poorly fibrous foods rich in fat, patients who use steroids (cortisone) for a long time, people with high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart disease, people with polycystic ovary syndrome, people who have had an organ transplant, and babies weighing more than 4 kg. It is recommended that women who have given birth should have their fasting blood sugar level screened for diabetes at least once a year.
